End of Orange contract coming up

Hi, my Orange contract is coming to an end next week and to be honest they are not offering me a deal or anything , in fact they've p'd me off with their attitude during a call i had with them regarding changing plans and upgrading my phone. They are basically not offering me anything, they want £170 to change to a Nokia N82. Ive been with them for years and have had my broadband with them for years also. Im also not exactly impressed with their customer service either.

I have a SE W850i that I really like but its getting a bit worse for wear so what do you think would be a good upgrade to it.

Im looking at O2 or Vodaphone (any views on that choice) and interested in the Samsung Soul or maybe the SE910i . Ive read of a few problems with the 910i ,cant stretch to a SE 960i and havent seen anything else I like. What are your views on my choices, are they worthwhile? Thanks Baz

Not really too much help, but I'm pretty happy with O2 and have been messed about by Vodaphone in the past.

My N82 is a superb phone, and got it free on a 12 month contract come renewal time (for £35/month though...)

Im in the same situation at the moment, I also have the SE W850i which i like but i have had it for over 18 months now.

I requested a pac code from orange last month because I want to move to Vodafone, my wife and i have been with Orange for a while now and their customer service is awful.

The wife has now moved to Vodafone (Samsung Soul, 300min, 250texts and unlimited internet for £24.99 a month).

Vodafones online customer service seems very good to me, having used it a couple of times.

Unfortunately the phone i wanted (SE W760i), which is out this month, will not be stocked by Vodafone but Orange are stocking it
This phone looks like an update to the SE W850i.
Going to wait till Orange are stocking it then request my pac code again and see what deal they will offer me.

Had a look at the Nokia N82 (good phone but too big). Never been impressed with Nokia phones battery life either. Samsung Soul is ok but not really a Samsung fan either.

That was my concern about the N82 but I get a good 3-5 days (depending on usage) from my N82. Admittedly I don't tend to use it for music but that does include texts, calls and internet on WLAN. I am pretty impressed with the battery considering what the phone can do.

Bit of a turn around from Orange. As well as getting nowhere trying to upgrade and change my package on the phone I went into the local Orange shop on Friday to see if they were more helpful. They said the same thing - £170 to change

Rang Orange again yesterday and they straight away offered me the Soul or the 910i free and would change my package to 700 mins,100 texts and unlimited landline calls. I was previously paying £25 for 500, no texts or unlimited landline calls.

Went to try the phones in the shop to see which one I preferred. I like the SE operating system but it seemed some of it wasnt as good to use as my W850i.Seemed a bit flimsy as well. Also looks like Id have to buy a memory card as well (my W850 came with a 1GB installed).
Could only find an operating Soul in the O2 shop but couldnt work it as someone before me had changed everything into Polish?

Can anyone recommend one over the other? Looked for the 760 on the Orange site but couldnt find it. How soon will Orange have it?

NJR73, how is your wife finding the Soul. How is it for music playing as I use the Walkman feature all the time and how does it compare to your W850 please?

My son came with me to the shop is is insisting I get the SE910i - I think hes looking at taking it over when the contract ends

I have called Orange to ask when the SE W760 is out and was only told "sometime in June". They didn't have a date.

Not going to be much help on your other question though because the wife does not use the phone for listening to music.

The Soul phone only comes with 128mb of internal memory, you would have to buy an additional memory card also.

I think you should wait till the SE W760 comes out and make your decision then.

Orange are crap, until you ask for a deal. When I got my new phone they wanted £99 to upgrade. I told them I wasn't paying (made up that the phone was free on 02) and within a couple of minutes I was getting the phone for free

Re: End of Orange contract coming up

been with Vodafone last 7 years but current offers have been a bit poor

so signed up with Orange yesterday - via calling them - I think a good if not amazing deal

Racoon something (35 I think)
700 x net mins
100 texts
Unlimited land-line calls
Free N82 (black)

£27.50 for a 18 month contract

not too bad.

Re: End of Orange contract coming up

Think Ive discounted the Soul , too many people advising me against getting a Samsung (no idea if theyre right or wrong though).

Also had a play with the W910i and was a bit underwhelmed with it compared to the W850i Ive already got - doesnt seem much of an improvement.

Dont know if I can wait on the W760 as my contract ends on Friday or Saturday.

Strangely i like the K810i but am unsure of the quality of its media player compared to my Walkman phone. The K810 seems to be a good phone , bit old but I dont see many new ones I like , is the K810i a bad choice?

hi, i have just renewed my contract with orange, finally! before i could upgrade within the last month of my contract but now its changed.
orange work it on a points and loyalty system in which if you see your contract through and get a new deal you get more points plus the loyalty factor.
i.e- better deals on upgrade phones.

i'm a big sony fan having had a w810i and now a k800i.my new phone is a nokia n82.my feeling on it is its a remarkable phone but a little complex for what i use a phone for which i'm disappointed with myself for really so im thinking of going back to soy ericsson as they just suit my lifestyle.

i'm thinking about the K810i also now. after using the k800i i think this phone is ideal for me.the music player on the k800 is fine and i found no difference in quality between the it or the w810i.

also really like the look of the W760 but i didnt get on too well with the w580i which is a slider also, thats the only thing that puts me of it.
