Tmobile Touch Plus, P1i or something else??

Have been with t mobile now for 18 months on flext 20 (paying only 15 with th fiver off deal). Now its time for a new phone...

I rang up yesterday and have a TMobile (HTC) Touch Plus on the way. I have upgraded to flext 25 (£90 allowance) and i am getting the phone for free.

I am, however not sure on the touch plus. I liked the look of the sony erricsson P1i but this wasn't avaliable on t mobile.

The touch plus is more powerful but doesn't have wifi or GPS. If i were to get the P1i from dialaphone i would get GPS included with the phone as well as more of an allowance.

I can send the phone back to tmobile if i don't like it, i have 7 days to do so starting tomorrow when the phone arrives.

I like the idea of staying with tmobile as i get good reception and the service has been good for the last 18 months. How does O2 compare overall to tmobile?

Which phone would you reccommend ( i simply want as much gadget tech for my money as possible) and could i have got more out of tmobile?

what would you say are the strong/weak points of the phones?

Also is their anyway to add wifi to a phone, through an expansion port etc?

Re: Tmobile Touch Plus, P1i or something else??

The Sony Ericsson P1i doesn't have GPS built in, so it would be via an external GPS receiver. With that in mind, you may as well get the Touch which is a far superior phone and add on a GPS receiver.

It's all well and good having the headline features, but if the bits you will use on a daily basis aren't very good you'll suffer.

The P1i is a very good phone, but the basics are slow in operation. Opening a text message or the contacts list for instance has a noticeable delay, which gets irritating very quickly, especially when you're in the middle of one of those text conversations that seem to go on and on!

The Touch is a more responsive phone and easier to live with. It's not lightning quick compared to non-smartphones, but it's better and quicker than the P1i.

Re: Tmobile Touch Plus, P1i or something else??

I went from a Windows Mobile 6 phone to the P1i. To be honest, I prefer the P1i. The speed thing is no different to what I experienced with some WM6 applications and can be fixed (see here). The P1i does everything I need it to do and does it quickly enough. I can live with the lack of GPS as I have a Palm/Tom Tom BT receiver.

If you do get the touch, be sure to download Opera. Browsing in Pocket Internet Explorer is just plain horrible. The P1i comes with Opera as its standard browser

As for adding wifi to a phone, I think the company is called Spectec (?). They make micro and mini-SD wifi cards. The card will stick out of your device though.

Re: Tmobile Touch Plus, P1i or something else??

I get the impression that the P1i is slow and that the touch plus misses out on some features...

What other smartphones are avaliable??

I am not on a massive contract so am limited, my budget is £25 per month and i don't really want to have to pay for a phone.....

Any suggestions...
