THINK i want a pda!

Hello, this would be desperate measures for me. Sick of carring a book, phone, sat nav, and mp3 player- wouldn't a pda do all this (it was an epiphiny!)??
My only concern would be that i would like it to read 'lit' files and support pdf's and other microsoft documents and the screen be touch type.
Not really bothered about the price as lets face it if it can do all that its worth it.

Just what would people recomend?

Re: THINK i want a pda!

Hi,

All the computer magazines seem to recommend the HTC Tyn II. Orange and others have these with their own branding, but it seems to do everything anyone could ask....

If you're doing a lot of reading off the screen, you better have eyes better than mine, because the screen is only about 3 inches diagonal. This is big by PDA-Phone standards, but I wouldn't want to read War and Peace on it..

Brecause it has Windows operating system, the caances are it will read any common files, but if it doesn't, there's loads of software that will...and often it's free.

Re: THINK i want a pda!

What size of device are you prepared to carry around?

I had a HTC Advantage for several months, thinking it would be a good alternative to carrying my Macbook and 'normal' phone.

However I found that although it was a good device it was more a case of jack of all trades, master of none.

I think pretty much any device could handle your phone, sat nav, and mp3 player needs, but there isn't a good substitute for a physical book yet, and to get anything close you need a good decent sized screen, I would have thought something like the HTC Shift would be the smallest type of device that would make reading off a screen acceptable.

This is why I recently sold my Advantage and got an Orbit 2, this fills pretty much all my needs, although video playback is pretty naff due to driver issues.

The Orbit 2 is only slightly larger/heavier than an average 'normal' phone and yet it's packed with features, I also tried an iphone for a while, and although it was a joy to use it was just too limited in terms of spec.

My advice is get an orbit 2 or similar and keep carrying a book around until a device with a fold out screen is released! we're still a few years away from that though!

Or get a UMPC or very small laptop (maybe the Asus EeePC?) for your digital book needs.

Hope this helps.
