Need help with Vodafone / 3G

Hi,

We've got a business account with Vodafone (5 or 6 users, 1 account, 1500 minutes).

We're all due for new phones, currently using Blackberry pearls.

I do a lot of remote admin (ssh mainly), so I'm thinking about getting a Nokia n810 tablet. I've been reading in to it and I believe I can tether the Nokia to a compatible bluetooth handset and make use of HSDPA speeds. This would be ideal.

I've phoned Vodafone this morning and the girl in the business team wasn't very helpful. She seemed to imply the only way to get 3G speeds for use with a computer (ie not using the Vodafone 'internet' live stuff) was to use the mobile broadand data card or USB modem. These won't work with an N810. She said it wasn't possible to use tethered phones for internet connections.

Can anyone who knows anything about Vodafone tariffs confirm this? I don't really want to move everyone away from Vodafone because generally they've been very good. I presumed it would be a case of a £15 monthly add-on for 3GB a month (like the datacards).

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Re: Need help with Vodafone / 3G

Hi

Vodafone seem to push selling a different product for data, ie USB modem, where as T-Mobile will let you add the function to your existing mobile.

I know with my consumer Vodafone contract I can use the phone as a modem, but it has a limit of 120mg before they start to charge, which then gets expensive.

The other networks, I think offer better value for money if you want to use it as a modem.

Vodafone has its own forum on their site, if you post over there, their forum intervention team will be able to help, and seem to have a wider remit/knowledge than regular Customer Services.

Hope this is of some help.
