Google maps

Hi I have some questions about this application, unfortunately I didn't find Google's own forum to be much help.

I just got the w890i which I understand doesn't have GPS built in, but uses "Google's Towers" or something to find out locations etc. I was happy with where it placed my location and also to my destination. But I was wondering (as I haven't actually tried whilst moving yet) if there is a way to get this auto-updating as you drive. As it seemed whilst I was testing in my house that you have to manually press a button each time you go past a check-point (dunno what else to call it lol)

Also, I wouldn't mind paying... but is there a way to get a voice telling you directions!?

I'm not after getting "proper" sat-nav for now at least as I've been driving for nearly four years and have never gone futhur than 40 miles lol! Would currently hardly ever use it.

If anyone has any information or help with Googlemaps in general it would be much appreciated!

Re: Google maps

As far as I beleive you would need a constant connection to a phone network or other network .ie wi-fi to enable the unit to update it's maps and therefore position .Not really worth it and it would be costly on a phone network .Much better solution would be to buy a dedicated satnav ,there quite cheap nowadays or buy a phone you can put satnav software onto .I have a Navman satnav [£99] and I was able to put TT6 on . Fantastic bit of software . I also experimented with my Ubiquio phones putting TT6 on those and by using a BlueTooth GPS receiver .Are you able to put such software on your model of phone ? and use a external BT receiver ? .I think this is the way to go .
