I've come to the end of my contract with Orange and shall be moving to Vodafone but I want to get my phone unlocked from Orange. They have told me they will charge me £20 to do it which seems a little steep to me. Are there ways I could do it for free?

I'm a bit confused as to what I need to do. Do I have to unlock the phone from orange before I can debrand or update the firmware on the phone?

Also if my contract has ended should I still have to pay a fee to get the phone unlocked?

I just unlocked 3 K800i for £15 from a guy at Lewisham market. The unlock appears to have debranded it as well.

Were you still in contract though. I'm out of contract on Monday and I just wondering if they have neglected to tell me that if I wait a few days they will have to unlock my phone for free!
