Cant decide between N95 or K850i, looking for some guidance please.

Hi, im in the market for a new phone and for one reason or another I have been drawn into looking at either the N95 or the K850i.

I have read various reviews and am as confused as ever now!

So he I am looking for your opinions.

Im a gadget man so I like the bells and whistles of these phones, I will use a camera on a phone from time to time, but use the phone mainly for SMS/MMS, internet and keeping my appointments in, oh and obviously talking!

Look forward to reading your posts. Cheers

Re: Cant decide between N95 or K850i, looking for some guidance please.

I've had both the N95 8GB and K850i very recently. In fact, I've just sold one and am selling the other now on this forum.

The K850i is fantastic, when it works. But it is without doubt the most unreliable phone SE have made in many years. I had two; the first one died when the touch sensitive buttons stopped working, the second died when the screen wouldn't turn on. Both had creaks and squeaks too and the keypad is a Marmite affair. Software wasn't too hot either, with random crashes. I've read other people who have had worse experiences too! Not good. When it worked it was really, really nice. The flash menus and the screen were superb. The camera was not as good as the K800i/K810i 3.2MP sensor on later firmware revisions.
I'm sure the K850i will get better with time and firmware updates... but how long that takes is anyones guess.
Having said all that, when my last one came back from repair it's been brilliant and not missed a beat once, so hopefully I've got lucky third time around.....

The original N95 was even worse than that. Again, great when it worked, but a nightmare the rest of the time. The N95 8GB cured 95% of those problems and added better (much better) battery life, a bigger screen, faster operation and a much more stable base. It's bloody great. Add on the 8GB flash storage, good camera, great keypad, GPS and ability to add your own app's and widgets and you're onto a real winner. I'm actually sad to see my N95 8GB go as it's such a nice phone to use, but with a O2 Stellar from work, two big phones is a waste and the money would be much more useful at the moment

So if you can get the N95 8GB, go for that. If you can only get one of either the K850i or original N95.... get something else, forget those.

All in my opinion and experience, but hope it helps anyway

Re: Cant decide between N95 or K850i, looking for some guidance please.

Thanks for your views.

I have read about problems with the camera on the K850i, taking pics in the dark. I thought that firmware upgrades sorted that out? I must admit the N95's that I have been looking out are the originals and not the newer 8gb version.

I have had smartphones for the last couple of years but fancy a change. Currently have a 3 weeks old HTC S730, which is ok, does everything, but im bored with it tbh, and dont find the operating system as good as previous smartphones.

But again thanks for your opinions.

Good reasoned argument for the K850i there, that'll really help the OP decide

not being smart (ha ha) but if you've used a Smartphone for a couple of years, chances are you'll really miss it if you go to an SE phone

I moved from an N70 to a Samsung last year, but it did my head in that I knew that a phone could do so much more and normal phones are dumbed-down to the point that I had to switch it for an N80 (which I drunkenly busted, then fixed) and now I've got an N95. Honestly, it's the best phone I've ever owned.

I've had a play with a friends SE before, and like I said, other phones just don't have the feeling of freedom that Symbian smartphones do

My N95 takes well good photos in the dark, if I use the night setting without flash and a very steady hand, I can get some cracking shots at night.

@RobM83, the 8Gb N95 is a waste of time IMO. the newest firmware (v20) gives the original N95 the same memory paging as the new one, along with better battery management, and a smoother quicker camera. Coupled with an upgradeable memory card, and the fact you don't have to sign your life away on a new long contract, the original N95 is definately the way to go.

Re: Cant decide between N95 or K850i, looking for some guidance please.

Another vote for N95. Original or 8Gb version. whichever model suits you best and you can get the deal on that suits you.

Not the place for an N95-1 Vs N95-2 discussion but I certainly wouldn't say the 8Gb version is a waste of time

It's an alternative slant on the original model that fits some people better than the orginal model and despite what some will say you don't have to sign your life away to a 18/24 mth contract. Many many people have got it on a 12mth deal. you usually have to just ask as all the networks offer 18mth contracts by default now but 12mth deals are still available

Re: Cant decide between N95 or K850i, looking for some guidance please.

I actually dont need a contract just the phone. I have a company mobile and I always just simply take the T-mobile sim out of the (rubbish basic) Nokia they give us and put it into a decent unit.

I must admit I was swaying last week to a N95 (non 8gb version). I dont need it as an MP3 player or Video player.

Thanks to all so far.
