New PAYG handset paired to Sim ? (T-Mobile)

I understand most handsets are lockd to a particular network, however I've heard lately that many new PAYG handsets come paired to the Sim card it's provided with ? Is this correct ?

For example, I have just bought a new Samsung U600 on T-Mobile that comes supplied with a Mates Rates Sim card. It's for my daughter who currently has a Sagem handset on T-Mobile PAYG - will her existing Sim work in the new handset ? It's something I doubt I'll find the opportunity to be sneaky & try before Christmas Day !

Cheers, Gav.

I can't see it being a problem, Cellnet (O2) did it a few years ago with their 'Best friend' tarriff and I beleive '3' were rumoured to be doing it on a few PAYG phones. I recently bought the missus a new PAYG phone from Tmobile and we were able to put her contract Tmobile SIM in with no problem.

Re: New PAYG handset paired to Sim ? (T-Mobile)

like ma1234 said it should be fine. Handsets and Sims are usually paired together just as equipment, so the network can track them.
Basically T-mobile handsets will accept any type of T-mobile sim card PAYG or PAYM and the same goes for the other networks too.

Re: New PAYG handset paired to Sim ? (T-Mobile)

Cheers chaps

I presumed all will be OK on the same network, & expect that will be the case.

Thought I'd post on here as there's always seems to be an answer to questions. Had there been the issue as per my subject I'm sure someone would have known about it !

Cheers.
