Iphone Questions?

Few questions please as thinking of buying one.

Can you get one over here without taking out a contract with o2? Or do I need to look at buying from the US or on ebay.

Can you unlock it to work on Orange? Want to get an Iphone contract with 3 is coming to the end but going to move to orange, the deal I can get with them for £35 a month is much better than I could get on o2. Heard something about a stealth sim but not really sure what thats all about.

I have heard people talking about getting the phone from o2 but not activating it, so although paying £269 for it you dont have to have their £35 a month crap deal. Is this true? Is there any comeback dont want to get hit with a bill for 18 x £35.

Thanks in advance, probably novice questions but hopefully someone will know the answer.

Re: Iphone Questions?

the search menu is a great tool

you can buy a uk iphone and jailbreak it however as it stands you can only use them on a o2 pay as you go sim

your only option is a unlocked one from ebay to use on orange

all new iphones out of the box are running v1.1.2 with a new boot loader that cannot yet be hacked for any sim card

you can however buy a turbo sim that fools the phone but costs upwards of £50

Re: Iphone Questions?

cheers did try a search but there was too much and read through it a bit but a lot of it was a bit technical.

So could I not get someone I know in the states to buy one for me and send it over? Would that work over here.

Re: Iphone Questions?

the usa ones are the same out of the box v1.1.2

i know cause i got one last week

you can download to v1.1.1 and jailbreak so you dont need to activate using itunes and then update to v1.1.2 but you cannot use it as a phone

best bet if you want it quick for an orange sim is ebay

If you cant use it as a phone its not worth having is it? Might as well just buy a touch.

Quite expensive though the ones on ebay! Near enough £400

So I could buy one from the US, downgrade it, jailbreak it then update to v1.1.2 Then if I get the Turbo sim/ stealth sim and it will work on Orange? Or will it still not work as a phone
