Number Porting from O2 to O2

Hiya. I hope someone could help on this...

I currently have a O2 pay monthly contract (due to end) with carphone warehouse. I've had the worst experience with them so I wanted to upgrade direct from O2, but they referred me back to carphone warehouse if I wanted to that.

The thing is I want to stay with O2 and also keep my number, but not through carphone warehouse. What would you advise??

Re: Number Porting from O2 to O2

Hi, I have worked with various phone networks for 7 years. I am REALLY surprised that someone has said it was "no problem". I have never seen o2 let anybody do this. The reason being that they want you to upgrade rather than get a new contract is that upgrades get how do we say... ...not very good deals. Simple as that!

What we have always done is advised customers to get an orange/t-mobile or voda P&G sim (normally free from various web sites) (not 3 either). Port your number over to the P&G sim/network then after 14 days port back to a new contract.

YES this is a total pain, and to keep it simple you will need alot of voice diverts but in my experience it is the only way round.

The guy before ported from online to store so they don't really have a problem with that, but changing from one billing provider to other they will simply see as somebody who wants the perks of being a new customer (cheaper handset / halfprice line rental etc)

Re: Number Porting from O2 to O2

as dave says put it on pay as you go with another network then move it back later. I thought it was a month though not 14 days?

Dave as for upgrades getting not such good deals I would be inclined to disagree with that. If you barter enough you can get a better deal upgrading than you would as a new customer.

From what I have seen what phone & deal they can offer you depends on banding ie how much you have spent over the last year average monthly bill etc.

Re: Number Porting from O2 to O2

I agree that carphonewarehouse is crap.
I was with them for 18 bloody months.

All you have to do is ask for a PAC code!

Dont fall for any of their "special offers" they may give just to stay with them.

Just say I'm not interested on any deals just give us the PAC code.

Once you have received the PAC code take it to O2 or whichever network you want. It should be easy from there on....

I've port over 18 months ago from O2 carphonewarehouse to O2 online. No problems for me.....and good customer service from O2.

Re: Number Porting from O2 to O2

all a puk code will do is unlock it when you have put the wrong pin in.

PAC code is what I think you mean.

@s1hastie

Yes you are correct with the banding issue. They sure do want higher A.R.P.U (Average Revenue Per User) customers to stay, this is because they are often on the wrong tarriff (which is often the fault of both customer and network). However having said that o2 are the most likely network to tell customers if they are on the wrong tariff.

In my experience (working for the networks and suppliers) I have often found free phone on £30 contract + bluetooth headset or just a free phone for the upgrader. Recently the half price line rental has been alot more matchable (if thats a word!)

I believe it is 14 days for a number to transfer over. This is because you have a 14 day cooling off period when you sign a contract. IE if they transfered your business number from o2 to voda on contract, and you cancelled the voda contract because you saw a better deal, you would lose your business number! Hence the 14 days.

Thanks everyone for responding.

So basically it shouldn't be a problem porting back to O2 (store or online)...?

Re: Number Porting from O2 to O2

Yep, as we seem to have agreed. Its possible just is a bit of hassle. You may have to move to voda P&G for a couple of weeks.

Re: Number Porting from O2 to O2

I rang carphone warehouse yesterday...they were so crap! They said I have to write in to cancel my contract and to request a PAC code. Does anyone know whether this is the only way to cancel and ask for a PAC code?
