If you want unlocked then buy it from Carphone Warehouse, Phons4You etc as generally they will have stock phones with a network sim, rather than a network branded phone with network sim you will get from the O2, Orange shop etc.

This isnt definitive though, so ask before you buy.

O2 contract phones are usually unlocked, just branded a little bit. I got a K800i from e-bay that was an O2 upgrade and it is unlocked.

I'm pretty sure just O2 Pay As You Go handsets are locked to the network.

The only part of it that is branded is the WAP icon. O2 dont tend to change the menu's completely like Orange and some Vodafones i've seen.
