Question Second Gen to 3G ???

Hi All

This may sound like a really dumb question to a lot of you.
Over the last few years I have had a few mobiles, but they all have been second gen and easy to swap.
If I change my old SonyEricsson K750i for a new 3G set, is it still possible for me to use my old 2G, O2 Pay as you GO sim card in a 3G hand set?
Then is it just as simple as just a sim update???

3G is a higher bandwidth. Meaning you can surf and download content from the net, people, mms etc a whole lot faster than GPRS meaning less time connected and less 'online time' charge.

I dont think you have to change a 2G sim to work in a 3G phone, unless you want to use 'video telephony' then I think the sim will need to be updated and depending on your operator provider, you will be charged for video calls

Re: Second Gen to 3G ???

Hey guys, great site. Just registered and been looking around, thought I might offer something here.

I work at Orange (sigh) and there you can put a 2G sim in any 3G phone but you wont get any of the 3G features. A network update wont fix things. it might be different on O2, but at Orange a 3G sim card would be needed to get the features.

2G phones are capable of this stuff
# GSM 850
# EDGE
# GSM 900
# GSM 1800
# GSM 1900

3G phones are capable of this
# UMTS 2100
# GSM 900
# GSM 1800
# GSM 1900

mainly the UMTS 2100 part.

hope this helps.
