If I ask for PAC code do I have to leave 02?

May sound daft but...

I am considering a NOkia N95 8GB with Vodaphone but must keep my number.

Hence PAC code. However to be honest I may be tempted with an N82 if I can see one in December. So If I ask and receive my PAC code then decide to stay with O2 can I just let it lapse and do nothing. Or do I need to call O2 and cancel PAC request?
