An LGU990 Viewty or N95 - which to get? Help please?

Hi there,

First post here so hello! Hope you can help.

I've decided to upgrade my phone (currently have w850i) and have narrowed it down to the phones in the title of my post.

I've never had an LG phone before so unsure of their reliability. Had a few Nokia phones and loved them until my last one (which was a 6230 and was very 'buggy').

I'm looking for a phone with a good camera as I don't own a seperate camera at the moment. Good battery life, and a good web browser. Music isn't a big concern as I've an MP3 player I'll continue to use but will probably download a few songs onto the phone at least.

I've read lots of reviews of these phones, and keep thinking 'ah yes I'll go for that one' then read another review. Very confusing.

I'm on 3 and can get both of them free (albeit with a waiting list on the LG) The LG I can stay on the same tariff and 12 month contract, the N95 I'd need to change to an 18 month contract.

Based on all the above, which would be the best for me?

Cheers for any thoughts in advance.

x

They are both good phones and each has it's pros and cons as I am sure you have found in doing your research. I got upgraded to the Viewty and I ended up sending it back because mine was a bit slow and the camera was not up to my expectations for a mobile phone. That is not to say they are like that. There are alot of happy U990 owners on here which leads me to believe that mine was a one off.

As for the N95, I am not a huge series 60 fan but I have told that the N95 is not as slow as previous S60 v3 phones (like my old N91). The pictures on the N95 are pretty decent and I would rate them better than the U990 even though both have lens certified by Carl Zeiss and Schneider-Kreuznach respectively.

Here is one of my mates pics taken on the N95

To get a feel for the N95 camera, have a look at this flickr group

Best thing to do is go into a 3 store where you can play with both phones. That way you can get a feel as to which one is right for you.

As for the tariff, I would double check that you can get the viewty on a 12 month contract as I was told flat out no. I was told (by India) I could stay on my Video Talk and Text 700 or go onto one of the new mix and match plans but either way it would be for 18 months.

That rules the N95 out! Steer well clear of the N95 if you want good battery life, mine lasts about 10 hours at best and as i usually do 12 hour shifts its a little annoying, nokia have made the worlds first unmobile mobile phone, a phone you have to carry a charger around with you, truly appalling.
Go for the viewty over the N95 anyday

Got my viewty today and I must say I am extremely impressed with it, The touch screen works much, much better than I expected even with the screen cover on it.

The camera is impressive for a camera phone but the zoom is dissapointing IMO,

Me and my colleagues had a bit of a phone off earlier one has a N95 and the other an Iphone I was really really dissapointed with the N95, it was just too bulky and complecated for a phone and nothing on it seemed to work with any speed or effectiveness. Though my colleague did get the phone the week it was out so they may hve sorted it a bit now.

If I was to compare the viewty to the iphone it was a bit like hiring Justin Timberlake to your wedding and having Shane Ward turn up. In other words the basic concept was the same but the iphone went about it in a lot more flare.

Thank you for the replies and thoughts. Liked the analogy bobus-man.

I'm still no nearer to deciding. Yesterday was on the verge of phoning to order the N95, but didn't.

Have spent days looking at websites too including those pics.

Hmmm, may just toss a coin in the end and hope the decision I make is the right one.

Thank you again.

Ive got both. Id go for the N95 without a shadow of a doubt. Both are excellent devices though.

I hammer my N95, about 2 hours of calls, 100 texts/emails plus about 2 hours of web surfing a day and i get away with charging every day and a half. The only thing ive found that kills battery is using the phone as a modem.
