I think under the 14 day return rule you still have to pay a pro rata line rental and any calls you made.

thats not the problem the fact they havent cancelled the phone is the problem, basically i bought it on the 10th returned on the 12th made no calls at all during that time, but the phone still isnt cancelled plus i got a 50 pound bill, i sure dont mind paying pro rata which must amount to about a pound but i just want the phone cancelled. ive spoke to them 4 times each time they send a form off for cancellation if its not done this time im gonna go nuts

The bill is automatic and has nothing to do with you cancelling the contract. Everyone gets a bill immediately following activation as they are paid in advance. So when cancelling it two days later, that original bill was already raised, the pro-rate should credit against the original bill.
Please note that under the law you will still be liable to pay the original bill first even though you have cancelled. Those are two totally separate things. If you do not pay that original bill it could have adverse effects on your credit rating as now with the alledged credit crunch even a single unpaid bill will affect your rating....
Best to pay first then get your money back. Nothing specific to O2 btw.

so far id concur that there customer service isnt very good , from what it appears to cancel a phone all they need to do is fill in a form with all the details of my phone, my till recepit number and the date returned. so far the form has been filled in and sent off 4 times each time im being told ill get a email in 24 hours and each time nothing happens and the phone is not disconnected. if this continues it starts to border on incompetence/

That's nothing to do with Customer Service; I'm certain they are curteous and receptive and willing to do it again. Did you have proof of cancellation? Did you send back the phone? Did you actually speak to them?
I've found them nothing but helpful, and yes they made mistakes with me as well. I had to do my number-port three times; did not work on the evening, the second time it did not get through (turned out my PAC code expired after it was entered) and now the third attempt it all seems to work. That is not the fault of the people working in customer service, and can you honestly say you never make a mistake, no don't think so....

Re: Anyone returned a iphone under the 14 days ?
the main problem here is the returns process for the iphone, you buy it in store but activate at home - so the store wont cancel it as they claim its a direct contract, where on a direct contract u send the phone back. so this is a new process that hasnt been thought out very well, it would be much easier if the store could just terminate it.

I agree. I made the mistake of being an early adopter of 3 with that ridiculous Motorola PDA type brick with the stylus. The worst phone, the worst reception AND they didn't let you have access to the internet. Things have improved since then I'm sure but I still hold a grudge!

Ah that lovely Motorola A1000 I guess. I had that on three as well. That did cause me to think twice about the virtual keyboard on the iPhone. The two implementations could not be further apart. It was silly from Three to actively block the real internet and put in place a little walled-garden to play in....
But I can't say I've had bad experiences with Three either; lifting the international calling bar, porting number in, porting number out, all was very easy. Never needed to speak to them for anything else really...Same for my wife
