Paying For The iPhone Online?

O2, Carphone Warehouse and Apple stores will not accept cash for the iPhone, and rumour has it they wont accept a Solo/Visa Electron card either

However both the O2 and Carphone Warehouse website list Solo as a valid payment method on their website.

Can you still pay via solo online?

Try it and you'll find out, when you do make certain you use Quidco as well as you get £35 cashback when using the O2 shop and £20 when using the CPW....

Could be wrong, but Solo is for under 18's and taking a contract out you have to be over 18?

I know the O2 branch in Glasgow had a 'we do not accept Solo as a form of payment' poster up.

Stop you buying a bulk load and selling them unlocked I would expect...

It is also a pre credit check, credit check.

Anyone with poor credit etc might well not have a full feature bank account, most of the sub prime bank accounts offer either solo or electron debit cards as these can't be used without authorisation rather than a full debit/cheque card. So Solo & Electron aren't really pre 18 cards, although some banks do offer them, others such as RBS don't offer any debit card at all till folk are over 18.

That's why they can be fairly confident that 99% (or whatever the figure is) of those who purchase the phone will not fail the credit check when the subsequently sign up with O2.
