MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
Hi, I wonder has anyone experienced this problem? I have an HTC Touch which runs WM6 and every time I receive an MMS it resizes to approx 4k before downloading. I cannot find any way of changing this - I want to download the original size picture but cannot find a way of doing it.
I know it's the receiving phone with the problem because if I receive an MMS on my Nokia it's the full size 30K picture.
Thanks.

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
You are not alone - on searching the internet it seems that this may be a particular problem associated with WM6.
I have an HTC TyTN II - exactly the same thing happens. As a check, if I send a picture to another phone, it is received correctly. However when I send it to myself it gets downsized in pixel size and kb size.
Neither O2 nor HTC seem to be able to provide an answer. O2 deny resizing MMS pictures.
I will let you know if any info comes out on how to solve the problem.
Best wishes

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
Thanks for your comments. Yes I have noticed that other people with WM6 are having this issue. There seem to be some .cab files around that fix it but are specific to certain US carriers and modify some registry entries. I don't want to start messing around running things when I don't know what they are doing.
Ludicrous that a simple fix from MS or HTC doesn't seem to have appeared.
Cheers.

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
I've had no such issues using a TyTN II with Orange.
My daughter wanted me to print some photos that had been taken with her partner's old Sony mobile (W800, I think), so she sent them last night via MMS. They varied in size, of course, but I'd say the average was about 140k. I printed them this morning and they were fine.

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
Very weird. Maybe the orange branded Tytn is configured slightly differently to the default. I am using my unbranded HTC on O2 and have been having this issue since day 1. It's realy annoying because no-one seems to have a definitive answer to this problem.

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
I only wish I could help. Unfortunately, I'm quite new to the TyTN II and the world of Windows Mobile.
Just a thought, but have you checked the photo resolution for SMS|MMS settings? For instance, in the SMS\MMS Inbox, highlight a MMS message, then click Menu, MMS Options and ensure Photo Resolution is set to VGA (640x480). Then await your next MMS to see it's made any difference.
Apologies if this is a wild goose chase, but, like I said, I'm very much a noobie!

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
Thanks for your comments. Strangely I do not have the MMS options as you state. My setup seems to be a bit different and there is a non-changable MMS/SMS account listed under "options" but there is nowhere I can specify incoming resolution limits. I've gone through the damn WM6 settings with a fine tooth comb. Oh well, not to worry. Bloody modern technology.....

Weird or what? I've just rechecked mine. Aside from SMS\MMS photo resolution preferences, there are also blacklist options and which MMS server to choose. There's also an About tab and clicking on it reveals the phone's MMS composer software to be running under licence from Arcsoft. Hmm, I wonder if Orange has specifically installed the Arcsoft utility on the TyTN II to get round the low resolution problem? Maybe the software is available for download. If so, it might be worth giving it a go to see what happens.

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
Thanks. Maybe when I installed my original O2 settings it has set something but now I cannot undo or change the server settings manually. I'll take a look at the software you mention to see if it's something I can use.
Cheers.

From the HTC Kaiser user manual, page 118...
"Change MMS settings
When you purchase your device, it is already preset with your wireless service provider’s MMS settings. If you accidentally lost the preset settings or you want to add another wireless service provider, you can configure the settings while composing an MMS message."
So it's nothing to do with WM6 settings.

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
Actually you're right. I have been hunting around for the MMS settings for ages and you do have to create a new message before getting access to the options so thanks for that Perhaps I should have RTFM......
However there is still no option regarding receiving messages which is my actual problem. There is nowhere that seems to limit message sizes so why are my incoming messages reduced to 4k whereas if the same message is sent to my E61 (using the same sim) I get the original 30K message......

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
Compare the O2 MMS settings in both phones...in my Motorola they're editable under "Web Sessions"...no idea what they're under in HTC or Nokia phones.

Re: MMS photos being shrunk in WM6
Having read the comments recently posted stating that it is not a WM6 problem I have to disagree. Threre are countless postings from people who have 'upgraded' their WM pda phones from WM5 to WM6 stating that prior to the change their MMS settings worked fine, but when WM6 came on the scene there was this mysterious change in the size of the pictures down to 4k.
As the provider (i.e. O2) denies any involvement in changing the picture size I would therefore say the problem is with WM6.
This still does not help those of us who are left in this ridiculous situation of having expensive kit that will only show pictures the size of postage stamps!
Cheers.

I'm inclined to agree. There is either a problem with O2 resizing (a couple of theories put forward on another site is that if your carrier does not recognise your handset model it downsizes as it just plays it safe by assuming you have a tiny screen) or there is a setting in WM6 that forces a resize before download and this cannot easily be changed. It is annoying when you are supposed to have an all singing, all dancing smart phone. I've resorted to asking my wife to MMS to my email address at least I can now get any photos full size.
