iPhone Users - how are you finding the Cloud?

So one plus point that has been mentioned on here a few times is the free access to Cloud hotspots when you buy an iPhone. Cambridge has a good number of hotspots and if I start to map these out on say google maps I could potentially get roaming wi-fi access over quite a lot of the town.

I'm just wondernig what it is like in reality - ie all cloud access points share the same SSID etc so you can just roam happily from access point to access without having to do anything in particular.

Also does the iPhone automagically choose the best connection available - again allowing you to foget about connection setup and just surf away ?

ta,

Nige

Haven't tried accessing any of the the cloud hotspots yet, but with regards to wi-fi connection etc. If you leave the wi-fi enabled, then as you come into range of known networks the iPhone automatically connects to them.

You can configure it to prompt you to join new networks or not, though preferred networks get joined automatically. I can leave the wi-fi enabled and when I arrive home it 's joined my network before I'm out of the car. Likewise when I get to work. I can't see any roaming issues, as long as the SSID etc remain the same.

Would be interested to hear if that is the case.

I'm not that impressed by the Cloud. I live in London so there are a lot of hotspots around but I often have problem connecting and their customer service is non existent. I actually paid for the service as I bought my iPhone in NY but I am going to cancel because it just doesn't provide enough utility and 9 times out of ten you can find a free hotspot in the same place.

If I wasn't paying then I would probably think more highly of it as the concept is great and if I could reach a hotspot from my office I would sign up again immediately.

Cloud is a nice addition but the coverage in Glasgow is nothing special so it is not ultimately much use.

The City of London has blanket coverage. Impoversished yokels like me get nothing, of course, not even Edge!

London to become Europe's largest WiFi hotspot

Re: iPhone Users - how are you finding the Cloud?

Live near Cambridge, but not tried it there yet. Was on a train at Kings X earlier, went online and it automatically connected me to Cloud and worked fine.

Much has been made of the lock/unlock debate, but I would suggest that you stick with o2 as Edge is OK, Cloud is pretty good so far and these are unlimited.
