iPhone £899 ???

Was passing my local Apple retailer (Scotsys, Edinburgh) yesterday and noticed they had some iphone posters up with £899 on them, unfortunately couldn't stop, but wonder if this is the sim-free price or they are just advertising the total cost of contract+handset over 3 years.

Might have to try to go in later this week to find out more.

Re: iPhone £899 ???

no personally i wouldn't but I would have though it a wee bit of negative advertising reminding people that they really have to shell out £899 in total.

Aye, folk shelling out for the contract must have money coming out of their ears. This sort of advertisement may put people off i must say.

Re: iPhone £899 ???

so working on the same basis I bought my sony ericsson k800i for £630, considering the phone was free with an 18 month contract..... had you ever thought by just totting up how much pay over the contract period your just simplifying it to the point of absurdity

To be honest i wouldnt bother getting the phone without the O2 contract, it would be pointless, as the iphone is designed with a permanent edge connection in mind which would cost the world if you ever had it on any other tariff...... since buying my iphone ive download 28 megs of information over edge which would cost me a further £28 ish on other contracts.

The best features of the phone (web apps + mail) would be really difficult to use without the constant edge connection. (ive also noticed no-one has spoken about web apps on the forums, do you all realise they exist?)

I wouldn't bother getting an iphone WITH an o2 contract, when I can get it with another sim, same minutes, 200 more texts and unlimited internet for £12.50 less

I think it's clearly cos they're bitter that it's exclusive to o2 and CW, and that this is their little dig

Edit: didnt realise they were an Apple reseller. Strange. Could still be the case though.

One thing you don't get with that is the free access to all the Cloud wi-fi hotspots which to me is a big plus. It means you don't always have to rely on the network.

Re: iPhone £899 ???

Managed to get another drive past today and had a better look. the advert seems to be a Scotsys produced one, not one Apple has asked them to put up and as we know that independent Apple resellers like Scotsys cannot sell the iPhone it appears they are using this to try to sell more iPod Touches.

The advert has an iPhone and iPod Touch side by side with prices above £899 and £269 respectively, then the caption "Spot the Difference" seems as if they are saying most functions are identical so why buy the phone basically.

Not sure if they will fall foul of Apple on this one though.

Personally I am very pleased I went with o2. Minutes and texts are fine with me, ok, I could save £12.50 per month, but no unlocking to do, no worries about firmware or itunes upgrades, free cloud, visual voicemail etc... Just a very easy phone to use and enjoy.

Thats nice............ every time apple added a feature in the updates you'd have to worry about whether it would brick your phone or not until someone managed to unlock the latest firmware, sounds like a right pain in the arese.

Having to spend one hour on unlocking or updating or anything like that, would pay that difference for 9 months...I guess I would spend a lot more than 1 hour on keeping up with it....

My time is worth much more than that...
