O2 Fair Use Policy

Howdy,

So a couple of questions on the O2 fair use policy. For data over 3G (or 2G if your about to become an iPhone user) is this 200MB or 2GB. I can't seem to find anywhere the figure.

I had just this month taken out the £7.50 unlimited data tarrif and noticed on my online bill I now can't see my data usage. The girl I spoke to said that if I was getting close to my limit (she wouldnt tell me what it was ???) then I would get a text message.

I think at the end of the month my bill will reflect my data usage breakdown but it would be nice to get this in the recent charges bit.

cheers,

Nige

Re: O2 Fair Use Policy

I think the general tariffs have a 200mb limit. If you buy an iPhone on the iPhone tariffs there is no limit.

Re: O2 Fair Use Policy

OK from the O2 site here is the data bundles..

For high street contracts less than 600 minutes -100KB

For high street contracts more than 600 minutes -512KB

For all online contracts - 1MB

O2 Web Bolt On - 200MB

When I ordered the web bolt on they said it was for 200MB, note mega bytes not megabits....

I will only be using it for Push Email, also you can get a program on the phone to monitor GPRS usage, it's called SPB SPRS I think, should be a 3G version available....

Re: O2 Fair Use Policy

But to re-iterate Hitby's comment. The iPhone on its' own special tarrif is genuinely unlimited.

Re: O2 Fair Use Policy

As I thought ... its funny how they give the unlimited to the new kid on the block but totally ignore the current phones such as the n95.

Then you start to look at the applications available on both devices

- on the n95 slingplayer and kyte.tv mobile to name two which are huge data munchers
- on the iPhone you have a web browser which in normal usage shouldnt be a data muncher to the extreme

Once again a provider not understanding their userbase and simply giving the new kid on the block the best toys.

At the moment I'm on a £50 contract which includes something like 600 txt messages and 600 free minutes. I then spend £7.50 on unlimited (or so I thought data) Now I did this initially to get the n95 for free.

Now if I could use the sim in my n95 I could end up going onto the £35 iPhone only tarrif which would give me 200 free minutes and 200 texts per month plus unlimited data and free access to the Cloud.

Then again looking at the figures its not much of a saving considering 18months on my current contract thats £1026 but with the iPhone contract its £630 (£900 if you include the price of the iPhone)

Or .... £70 Eurostar ticket at the end of the month to Paris and pick one up over there which of course isnt linked to any contract obligations

Actually why am I even worrying - my business pickup my mobile charges every month !
