Easiest current phone to unlock

My wife's mobile contract is up for renewal, and took a liking to a PAYG phone (E250). So I'm planning on giving my wife's phone upgrade to my dad, but he's on a different network - he's on Orange, and we're on T Mobile (and he is currently using a really old brick...).

What are the easiest phones to unlock that are currently on the market - decent stuff such as N95 and 6500 etc.

Or just buy the payg phone from carphone as they are all unlocked sim-free phones anyway. (99%, only recent exception has been the job lot of W850i's on orange payg)

Re: Easiest current phone to unlock

Sorry, don't think I made myself clear.

My wife is due a new contract phone, but liked a cheap PAYG phone (Nokia E250...in pink ). I bought her the Nokia from carphone warehouse and put her contract sim in it.

This means there will be a spare upgrade handset from my wife's new contract, which i want to give my dad.

He would be happy with any phone, so I was wondering if the current phones are as easy to unlock as a lot of the older phones?

Re: Easiest current phone to unlock

any phone is easy to unlock, if taken to a shop.

around 98% of phones can be unlocked for around £10.00

you might find that the phone you get on contract is already sim-free!

you can unlock a lot of them online, but read through their small print to make sure that they do the phone you receive. been stung before

Re: Easiest current phone to unlock

Beware, a lot of the new Nokia phones cannot be easily unlocked by anyone other than the Network Operator.

All O2 phones usually come unlocked.

Vodafone will only chanre you 20 quid for the unlock code.

I think T-mobile charge a similar amount but make you wait until the handset is 3 months old.

You mentioned that Vodafone charge £20 to unlock a handset - I thought I'd just add that if they supplied the handset and it is over 12 months old they don't charge for the unlock code.
