K850i and sat nav

Ive bought a bluetooth gps (,its on its way) and have downloaded and installed a program called nav4all......so hopefully I should have sat nav working on my k850i soon,.......will post an update when I have one

And for all those that are gonna ask for it...Ive added a link to the nav4all app(winzip it first)....just put it in your 'other' file.....locate it and press install (on your phone). Allow internet access so it downloads your language and maps....takes 1 min....ergh, buy a bluetooth gps as its needed(ebay)

As for the time nav4all is free.....till 2008(although they said it wasnt going to be free by 2006 so I assume they know they will lose out by charging)..if they do charge in the future at least I'll know if it will be worth it, and by then there will prolly be more free software elsewhere.....tada

Re: K850i and sat nav

It does also cost to retrieve the maps....but.....you plan your route and it only receives which maps you need straight away so your downloading new parts to the map every 1o mins. I dont know how much it will work out to but its perfect for people like me who only do a long journey every blue moon....but always gets lost lol

Re: K850i and sat nav

I tried nav4all on my HTC TyTN and it worked pretty well, but unlike most satnav solutions it doesn't show maps as you go along, it just gives directions, e.g. turn left, turn right in 2 miles.

It is free though and is does work in many different countries, so it's a great back-up solution.

Re: K850i and sat nav

I tried nav4all side-by-side with Destinator (old version, 3??) today. It is very useful having the maps on destinator, but nav4all routing is good and the instructions are more accurate. When I went off-route nav4all was much better at finding a new route than Desitator, which would often take me in a circle to get back on the original route. Nav4all (sillly name!) just recalculated a new route to the destination.

N4A also turns off the back light until needed which is good for running without external power.

I only turned the sound on briefly and it was too repetitive and irritating so I turned it off again.

N4A doesn't appear to send or receive much data, only a few tens of KB at a time, so for many people data costs won't be too high.

Strangely nav4all was 60 yards out in notifying about junctions. On roundabout it was even worse. Then I realised it was measuring to the exit of the roundabout - which is accually quite useful on a big roundabout with many exits, especially wothout a map.

Overall nav4all is still useful. Maps would definitely improve it, but still very good for the price.

I have also tried smart2go (also free to download, but you have to buy a licence to navigate) which I found to be rubbish. It simply didn't work about 90% of the time.

Re: K850i and sat nav

Well when I get nav4all going I will probably only use it once a month...I get 120mb for £6....so I assume that will be by far enough data for quite a few trips...I only use the internet to check emails like once a week

Re: K850i and sat nav
