I'm hoping someone can help because I'm at my wits end trying to find a mobile with a decent sized keypad that has a good feedback when the keys are pressed.

I was convinced the SE W810i was the phone for me but after trying the keypad in Tesco it's got very little feel when the buttons are pressed. In all other respects it's an ideal phone.

Can anyone suggest a phone with decent sized keys that feel pressed when you press them? The Nokia 6300 was good but it lacks the facilities of the SE.

I'll be using the PAYG option once a good handset is found. Slider is preferred over candybar but if the keypad is good enough I could be persuaded.

I spent a couple of minutes testing phone keypads in a shop today.

I found the Nokia 6300's keys to be good-sized but like you said, it isn't very high spec.

The SE K800i's keys were OK - they had a good response (you can feel them go down and back up) but they're a bit too crowded (like the Nokia 6300).

I only keypad I really liked was a really low-spec phone - the SE W200i.

Having said this, I found my Nokia 6230i's keypad really hard to get used to at first but after a couple of weeks, it felt fine.

Thnks for that feedback Paul. I find it totally frustrating that these phones are made so small. I appreciate people don't want the house bricks of 20 years ago but just another .5" longer and wider would make a huge difference.

It seems they're falling over themselves to make them as small as possible forgetting we don't have fingers the size of small children!

Good point about getting used to the keypad after a couple of weeks. Maybe I should go for the W810i. Even the reviews score it as one of the best phones.

I discovered something new this morning at the Carphone Warehouse. Apparently the phones on demo in Tesco are dummies and the keypads are not indicative of 'proper' phones.

After a few presses of the keys on a 'proper' W810i this morning I was more than happy with the feedback and bought one.

Signed up to Orange and once it's finished charging I can start having fun!

I think Sony have really lost the plot in terms of keypad design recently IMO. Their keypads on most models are ugly and far to small.

Well I certainly wouldn't disagree that they're too small. With some practice I am getting used to the keys and the W810i does have a good feel when keys are pressed.

Remember Pretty Woman and the rich dad and young daughter driving by with two house bricks strapped to their ears?

If you like texting then have a look at these types of phones.HTC Kaiser or even the the Toshiba G900.Ok they are a bit salty and a little on the larger size but they do have good size keys/key boards.

I don't anticipate texting much. It's probably contributed more to poor grammar and spelling than any other event in history. Only when necessary and I'll be spelling 'you' and not 'u'.

The problem is that many people can't separate text speak from normal e-mail which drives me up the wall.

Rant off. Thanks for the advice but I've already bought the W810i which is not half as bad as I'd anticipated given the size of the keypad. Your tips will hopefully help others.
