D600 locked to Vodafone?

hello, phone noob here.
Currently have a samsung D600 on a monthly contract with vodafone thats killing me. I would like to change to O2 Simplicity. Woman in the shop said I get a PAC code from vodafone for my number but how do i tell if the handset is locked to vodafone? and if it is can I unlock it without giving them more of my cash?

Re: D600 locked to Vodafone?

Hi Jabbaa,

You can tell if your Samsung D600 is locked to vodafone by putting a SIM card from another network such as O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Virgin etc. (but not '3' as the D600 is not a 3G phone.) You could borrow one from your friends if you don't already have one.

If it works then your phone is already unlocked.

If you need to unlock it you can get an unlocking code from Vodafone but that is quite expensive - approx £15 to £20.

Alternatively you can hire or buy an Unlocking Clip from ebay - be sure to get the correct one for your D600 phone as there are several available. Best to buy one for about £5, unlock your phone with it (only takes a few seconds) and then resell it on ebay to get your money back. I unlocke my Samsung E900 by this method - it's really easy.

Then if you want to keep your number ask for a PAC code from Vodafone. You don't have to keep your number

Hope that helps.

I have a spare O2 PAYG SIM you can have for free if you PM me your address.

Re: D600 locked to Vodafone?

If the handset is over 12mths old Vodafone will supply the unlocking code free of charge, however it will invalidate any warranty that is help with Vodafone on the handset.

If you use the Online Contact Form to send Vodafone an email, including FIT135 anywhere in the body of the text either myself or 1 of my colleagues will be happy to help.
