Phone Orange? I doubt they'd expect, or even want you to, send it back.

If the IMEI has been barred (which it probably has) then you won't be able to get it unlocked at all.

It's worthless now mate.

Re-writing the IMEI code can land you in jail too.....

Phoned orange they said i have to return the lost one as its property of the insurance. Also i asked if i get any refund and they said no. Find this hard to believe. I pay £70 for a replacement handset, and now they want me to send the other phone back, which is in full working order apart from it being blocked. What a rip off !! All they will do is get it unblocked and pass it on again. Will think twice in 4 months on wheather to stay with Orange !! Been a valued customer for last 5 years on contract. Feel like i've been ripped off.....

Re: missing handset found (what to do next)

keep the handset and dont give them the luxury of re-activating it.

then sell it on ebay to some bloke abroad.

not your fault you lost it again, clumsy bugger that you are!

Youve paid the excess and got a new phone now your wanting the old one back and working alongside it ?

If you dont return it to the insurance company then you could be prosecuted.

I take it that this isnt your first claim hence the £70 excess ?

No never claimed before first time i have lost a phone. Never had the insurance so had to pay a one off payment of £70, I at least thought orange would have refunded most of payment by me sending the new replacement back. So in my eyes why should i do them a favour now they aint done me one.... Rather than Orange have it i would prefer to put it out for the trash man...

HOw have they not done you a favour, they have replaced your phone for £70, they could have said, you lost it your fault. If my car gets stolen and my insurance pays out and the police subsequently find my car it isn't mine any longer or what you expect to recieve the payout and the found car again. Strange outlook you have, perhaps you should not lose your phone next time.

If you dont return it to the insurers (most probably a third party) then you could be prosecuted as its no longer your property.

The excess on my car insurance is £300, if it was stolen i'd get another £45k car, would you expect me to get the old one back if it was found and then sell it ?

so when they have found your car, that the thief has stolen, and its a bit damaged, i do believe you have the option of purchasing the car from the insurance company for a nominal sum.

we are not talking about a 45k car here either, i think the OP is just miffed at the treatment he has received after being a valued customer. in the eyes of the law yes you do have to return the offending object, but not at your expense, tell them you would like a courier to come and pick it up, as you do not trust normal mail process for the safe return of the phone, lets see how long it takes them to organise this, think you may find it never happens!

by the way what model of phone was lost and the new one that you got? and is it any better?

I think the poster wanted or even expected Orange to replace his phone for nothing, the service he received appears to me to be excellent, they have replaced his phone for which he didn't have any insurance at all for a nominal fee. They could have said your problem.
