Tomtom on SPV C500 not seeing GPS

I have installed Tomtom 5 on my SPV C500. When I launch it, it says it cannot find a GPS device even though the Holux GPSlim236 is paired with the device.

I go into 'Configure GPS Device' and select 'Other', I get a message saying 'Please pair a GPS device with your Smartphone....'

Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Tomtom on SPV C500 not seeing GPS

In your bluetooth settings on your phone after pairing try renaming your receiver to BT GPS. Then run Tomtom and select other as you have done, it should find the receiver.

Re: Tomtom on SPV C500 not seeing GPS

Ive tried that and Im still getting the same problem.

I cant type BT GPS in capitals though, I keep hold of the '*' button and select Abc but then I cant write in capitals, is that causing the problem?

Follow the advice here:
http://www.modaco.com/Tomtom-5-C500-...o-t221482.html

If it still doesn't work, you have an early C500 and need a ROM upgrade:
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/3206.html

(Well, that at least is what I did years ago).

Re: Tomtom on SPV C500 not seeing GPS

Can I upgrade the ROM by running that 22MB .exe file from the Mini SD card?

I dont have a data cable so I cant follow the instructions on that site

Just checked and I already have the latest ROM version

Re: Tomtom on SPV C500 not seeing GPS

Ive tried all the methods from that forum (http://www.modaco.com/Tomtom-5-C500-...o-t221482.html)

Still no luck. I've even tried different GPS reciever.

This is really bugging me now. I had the same problem on Tomtom6 on my N73 but that worked after I set the configuration to 'Other GPS device'

Please help

Re: Tomtom on SPV C500 not seeing GPS

Ive been searching on the net and asking around for 2 days and now I give up.

Ive even done a hard reset which didnt resolve this.

Im going to purchase a Nokia phone instead. Can anyone recommend a NOKIA phone which can run Tomtom and uses either mini-SD or normal SD cards?

Re: Tomtom on SPV C500 not seeing GPS

Finally got it working!

After doing a hard reset, I put the SD card with Tomtom stored on it into the phone

Switched the phone on and it said "install application?", selected yes

Then I went in to Bluetooth and set it to Discoverable

Then went into Configuration > BT Serial Port and selected Com6 and 7.... it then asks you to pair to a device.

I switched on the GPS reciever and paired it with the phone as usual

Then launched Tomtom and it first siad "no gps device found", i went in to Preferences > Configure GPS and selected 'Other GPS device'

Then I switched the GPS reciever off and on again and after 10 seconds it picked it up!!

It took a week but worth it in the end
