Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

I needed an old Panasonic X70 unlocked to use in America and sent it off to www.unlockmob.com to get it unlocked.
That was ten days ago with no answers to my emails.
I feel pretty stupid that I may have fallen for a scam. Has anybody had any experience of them?

Thanks

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

I thought they send you out a code. I didn't realise you had to send the phone off.

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

They said they couldn't unlock my phone that way and I had to send it off to them so they could "unlock it with a cable"
Having already paid for the code I stupidly sent it off.

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

Did you ever get your phone back. I am trying to unlock a UK phone to use when I go back to Australia and am thinking of using these guys. I emailed them my phone's details and go the same message that I needed to send my phone to them.

Let me know. I can't find any independent reviews of them anywhere.

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

They might be sound, but i personally don't like the idea of sending my phone off somewhere like that. I think the best bet is to either contact the network that the phones locked too and ask them, or find an independent local mobile shop.

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

Did you ever get a hold of them? I am having the same problem with the same http://www.unlockmob.com I payed via PayPal and have been trying to contact them for 6 days and have not heard back from them and never received my email with the unlock code.

I'm disputing the charge with PayPal to try and get my money back.

If you know how to get a hold of them beyond their generic email account it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

Aha the elusive Stavros

As my phone was returned in June and your post was placed on July then I doubt it was sent to US at the weekend.
Another mistake and further evidence of a not too efficient service.

My problem with your company was that there is no contact number and all emails go unanswered.

I'll let readers of this thread decide for themselves.

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

gasmark, so you received your phone back from us in June, we may have been inefficient but at least your phone was returned to you, doesn't seem much of a scam to me, as it happens we have put a lot of work into obtaining more unlocking codes recently, and have completely revamped our admin dept. As for sending phones into us, we offer this service because we cannot unlock phones that are not on our list on the site, the physical unlock service costs us time and money, we hardly make anything on it, we would rather we didnt receive any phones to physically unlock, it's a hassle frankly. However we offer this service because we can.

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

I never said it was a scam. I said I "may have fallen for a scam" because i cound get no response from you. At least you now admit that you were inefficient.

My complaint with the Unlock Mob was that you have no contact phone number and you do not answer your emails. After 10 days without contact trust does begins to wane.

I would not have posted this thread but for a simple phone call or returned email. I was the customer and you could not, or would not be bothered to talk to me.

gasmark, as i said in my post, we have completely overhauled the admin part, it was a mess granted but is getting better,we have a lot of work to do on it we know that, also cannot please every customer all the time,im pleased that you received your phone back, at least it shows intent, anyway, apologies for your bad experience.rgds

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

Is this for real there is no way you could provide unlock codes of rmost phones atleast not for £3.95

you couldnt unlock most phones for that price eg Nokia BB5 models

I can't believe anyone would send there phones to someone who has no list of support phones or models and how the service works etc

still glad you got your phones back

actually some phones can be done for free using codes

but any paid services usually costs more than £3.95 to the sellers of these services

lots of scams out there that will sell you free stuff for cheap

anyone who can genuinly provide a service you cant get for free will charge for there srevices

I am so comforted to find other people who've had similar experiences!
(Of course I am not pleased it happened, but I'm pleased to have found this site)

I am £4 poorer and still no service (and a lot of time wasted). I've reproduced below a post I did to another website where I explained my suspicions that this could be a scam.(http://http://www.hellopeter.com/the...sp?recid=93116)

I feel so strongly about this that it's become a personal crusade.

"This service promises to network unlock handsets but I will explain below why I believe it is a SCAM:
The advertisement says 'unlock your phone instantly' then 'unlock your phone now. Once you have paid £4 the 'instant' and 'now' disappears and the site tells you to wait for 3 days.
They simply did not unlock my phone and (wait for it) - asked for another £12.

There is no contact phone number to talk to anyone. My e-mail queries requesting a refund go unanswered. I asked them to prove they were not a scam twice and they did not reply. There is no physical address given.
The Terms and Conditions are set so you can't see them properly when landing on the page and I found them ambiguous (especially the part about paying whether or not you get service)
Site says 'if you are unhappy with our service, e-mail for a refund' (or words like that) but I e-mailed twice and didn't even get a reply."

Re: Unlockmob - scam?

Hi again.

I just did a google on "unlockmob scam". Should have done this before handing over the money! There a whole raft of results. Here's a range of posts from unhappy people:

Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

Hello to all you fellow victims of unlockmob.com.

Let me start by reassuring gasmark that he should not be apologetic to unlockmob, even if he received his phone. cgeerdts is correct and now that we know that the folks at unlockmob are listening, we should take this opportunity to let them know how we really feel.

Common decency would dictate that unlockmob refund every sucker from whom they tricked out of 4GBP. My concern is not whether they returned a phone or two to people who took the chance to send them a phone, it is their manner of doing business. cgeerdts correctly noted that they are doing business without a physical address. I noted in my post on another forum http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/show...76#post2627276 that they do not list the phones which they can unlock in a manner that legitimate, above-board business do. Instead they hide it in their Terms and Conditions. This is surely an attempt to swindle people out of 4 Pound Sterling.

Now that I know that unlockmob is listening, I say this to them. Seeing that you are in the process of revamping your business, revamp this:
1) Refund every sucker their 4 GBP which you cashed and could not send a code.
2) Put your list of phones in clear sight for everyone to see. A simple dropdown list containing all the phones you can unlock will do. That way we do not have to type in the phone model.
3) State clearly that any phones not on the list will have to be sent in for unlock.
4) Clearly state a physical address for your business.

After making these changes, people will start taking you and your business seriously. Anything short will be treated as a scam. If you are conducting a truly legitimate business then you surely will have no problem making these changes.

To everyone else, be vigilant. Do not let scamps get you. They come in all shapes, sizes, colours and forms.

Well said. I took a screenshot of the Terms and Conditions. When I clicked on the text was way down the page (as the screenshot shows) so that it appeared simply as a blank

Only problem is - is Unlock mob (Stavrous) still listening? Haven't seen a post for a while now!

Exclamation Re: Unlockmob - Anybody Heard of Them?

I also foolishly paid £3.95 for an unlocking code....they promised 'instant' unlock prior to payment which changed to having to wait 72 hours once I'd paid!
Ten days and at least 6 emails to their 'Customer services' (!!!) later I have received nothing....no code, no return e mails, a great fat zero!!
£3.95 may be a small amount but imagine what they're making when thousands of people fall into the same trap! Con artists!!
