Replacement for TyTN

Hi Guys

I have a HTC TyTN which I am using beyond its capabilities. I have upgraded it to WM6 and use a lot of the extra functionality that it contains however, I find it too slow and the screen is to low res. I am also seriously ****ed off with HTC build quality and it now has a fourth hardware issue that I cannot be bothered to return it for. - NO It has not been dropped, in fact its been treated better than an eggshell!

I was originaly looking at replacing it with an I-Mate Ultimate 5150 but I have now heard that they are not being released until November. I can't wait this long. I need a phone that can do all of the following but is NOT made by HTC
  1. runs WM6
  2. has HSDPA/3G
  3. has Bluetooth/Not bothered about WiFi
  4. is faster than this rubbish Samsung 2442A processor at 400mhz
  5. ideally has more than 128meg ram - optional
  6. has an optional extended battery
  7. supports push Exchange email
  8. Last but by no means least, MUST have a 640*480 screen
  9. has a slide out/slide down keyboard
  10. must NOT be made by HTC - no matter how well re-badged it is!

The monstrosity that is the JasJar is simply too big and doesn't support HSDPA anyway. Budget is not too much of a problem but I don't want to go bigger in size than the Ultimate 5150. I will be buying off-contract.

Apart from the I-Mate Ultimates, I can't find any phones to meet this criteria, anyone else know of any? I'm desperate!

Thanks loads in advance for saving my life!

You could consider the ETEN Glofiish X50+

http://www.etencorp.com/products/Com...tion/X500+.php

Has a lot of the things you are looking for.

EDIT: Whoops - just saw it doesn't have 3G at all.

Re: Replacement for TyTN

Thanks for your effort though

3G is vital, in fact, so is HSDPA.

I have actually been advised that the Toshiba G900 is right up my street and I think this is the way im going to go - it gets released next week.

I've have the Vodafone version (1605) for about 9 months now and haven't had any problems other than WiFi being unstable. Build quality seems OK.

Is WM6 upgrade generally available? I've heard it can cause problems.

Looks interesting. Please post some feedback if you get one.

Ian.

Re: Replacement for TyTN

Yeah, HTC stuff can be a bit hit and miss build quality wise. But on the whole they are not any worse than most other brands. I will wait for reports on the quality of the Kasier before buying, but that spec list is just fantastic.

Yes but not legaly. Goto forum.xda-developers.com and look there. Software wise, the LVSW or BlackDymand builds are pretty hot. They both go through and trim out surplus software etc so it runs faster than the MS versions!

BTW: re build quality. You are seriously lucky! I have now had the famous screen gasket/alignment issue, another common "won't charge the battery", a simple "won't turn on" and now the sim holder bracket/springs have given up.

edit: oh and the speaker on my MDAIII has given up the ghost - yet another HTC designed phone. One bitten, twice stupied, thrice not a chance!
