3G image compression

I have just invested in a tmobile mda vario ii with unlimited 3G access.

I need to download photographs and technical diagrans from the web but whenever I download an image (jpeg etc) the image quality is appalling. it seems like it has been severely compressed somwhere along the way. the problem is the same when I use the phone as a 3G modem for my laptop.

does anyone know why this is? is it something on the phone doing it,tmobile, or is it a general characteristic of 3G?

would appreciate any info on this matter!

cheers

I've never had that problem using Three's 3G service...perhaps it's something that T-Mobile's doing?

Re: 3G image compression

It probably depends on how the phone is set up. T-Mobile (and others) compress images when they are sent to mobile devices with small screens.

Try changing the APN (Access Point Name - the point your phone is connecting to the network) to "general.t-mobile.uk", no username, no password, but make a note of your current settings before you do. These are the settting used for PC modems (as opposed to phones) and shouldn't compress images.
