PDA Wanted - GPS & Tom Tom Req'd

I'm struggling at the moment to cut through the wave of different Pda's that are out there. I'm looking for one as a present for my missus, she definitely needs something like that to keep herself organised, but would also want to jazz it up a bit by having one which has GPS and Tom Tom (or another traffic system) as she is a keen hiker, so will help her a) getting to the hike location, and b) not getting lost!

Any suggestions? Budget is around 300 - 350. The HP ones look to be the favourite from what i've seen so far....but what is needed to use the GPS? She won't be interested in using it as a phone and being tied into a contract, but is that required (am a complete numpty when it comes to this stuff!)

Re: PDA Wanted - GPS & Tom Tom Req'd

Hi

After having lost my 3 year old Dell PDA with TomTom a couple of months back, I was in the same predicament as yourself. Spent weeks researching (and just could not get on with a paper based organiser) and plumped for a HP ipaq travelmate rx5935.

This has a host of features, WLAN, bluetooth and also has TomTom GPS built in to the system, which has not let me done to date as well as the normal PDA functions. Just switch the TomTom software on the PDA on, let it find the GPS signal and off you go - no fuss. I went direct to HP store which was retailing at £295, registered for their newsletter and got £40 knocked off the price . Worth checking if this is still round.

HTH.

Thanks! Can you sync email and calendars to it too (I assume you can as this should be "standard" PDA functionality) - unfortunately the sites I can access at work are fairly restricted!

Thanks again! (and I think, from a quick glance today that the HP site is still doing the £40 off for subscribing, so thanks for that tip too!) - the only reason I asked was because I didn't see Outlook on the SW list. But I did think it would be insane not to have it

Just myself the HP rx5935.The Tom Tom GPS works really well. Also the GPS works well Intelligolf for recording yardage on golf course,so should work well with any other GPS software you might need. The PDA side is also well specced,a massive 2GB ROM,of which approx 300MB is available for programs & files.
I got mine from www.it247.com for £275+£12 next day delivery.
All in all would I would definitely recommend this PDA.

Re: PDA Wanted - GPS & Tom Tom Req'd

to Tazman:
do you use the MP3 player in the car? if so how do you connect to the Car Audio? if not then can I ask how you do play MP3s in your car? (see I am wondering whether I can use the 6935 Bluetooth functionality to stream music from 6935 to a Bluetooth enabled Car Radio, and at the same time use that Bluetooth enabled Car Audio as a handsfree kit for my cellphone, witout trying to connect 6935 and cellphone).

And have you tried Google Mobile Search at all?

Hi

If you mean do I use the i-pod in my car - then no, it stays permanently in the denon dock (as the battery on it is screwed, so is left on permanent charge in the dock) - I just burn the tunes to CD's and use them to listen in the car. If you mean do I use the PDA to play music, then I'm afraid I don't as I only use it for my work and for its GPS properties.

Sorry I'm not much help to you here at all.
