What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

Ok I have a Noklia N80 at the mo, would love the N95 but think its too much, Im currently on Orange for £25 month.

TBH never use a lot of the features on the N80, WiFi was great but a gimmick in the end, I do like a good camera though for snap shots when out and about etc, and play music, with a memory card also

So been looking at SE K810i, Samsung U600, like the look of the new SE P1 but prob be expensive.

So what do you recommend? also I notice the U600 has a document viewer for PDFs, MS office files etc, that would be cool, whereas the SE K80i seems to be closed andonly allow java.

Also the N95 has excellent video recording at 640X480 (mate has one), I think the K810i and U600 have poor vid recording, any one comment on this please

also any other phones please tell me
cheers

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

Orange have currently got an offer on to get £100 off your mobile bill, all you have to do is give them an old working fone and eh voila £100 credit.

So I got:

N95 for £129.99
Dolphin £30, 100 mins and unlimited txts
Less £100 for an old mobile + free broadband if i want it + orange wednesdays

therefore due to the credit back in my mind the fone only costs £29.99 if ya see what i mean, also with the n95 you can read pdf and office files, however to be able to edit them theres is a subscription fee.

all the best

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

Just to let you know that Sony are announcing some new models this week (in fact it's today) so you may want to see if anything takes your fancy there first.

Just so you know, the N95 is reputed to have a terrible battery life (i.e. requires a charge every night). I would have got the N95 had the battery life not been so bad, but I don't want to have to ration my mobile usage if I'm away from a charger.

Sounds good but thats only on 18months contract, I want a 12 month contract, sorry should have said. 18months beofre a new phone seems too long for me!! Would have prob went for it if not though

SE have announced the K850i with 5MP - cool but whens it out? I cant wait too long for a new phone.

Also was mesing about with my mates Samsung U600 and it has an inbuilt document viewer for PDF, Word, Excel etc, worked well too

ahhh I see, also read up that the video camcorder function is still only 320X240 altho it is 30fps.

The U600 is 352X288 @15fps I belive, is this better? or better to have more fps?

Im still deciding on U600, K810 as the N95 seems o be going up in price!!

Any other good phones out at the moment?
cheers

Higher the FPS the better as it'll be less jerky, especially given their resolutions are near enouhgt the same.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

what about the U600 and the K810i then as the K810i only has 176X144 I think

do you think the U600 will beat it, I think the U600 is only 15fps

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

I don't know about the U600, but my K800i (essentially no difference to the K810i under the cover) is quite poor at video. I always use my N73 in preference.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

Sorry to butt in. I'm in a similar situation. I got a Nokia N80 last summer on an 18 month contract from orange. Took it to ibiza last summer to get some shots from inside the clubs (the bouncers won't let you take it dedicated digitial cameras). I wasnt too impressed with the low light level phones it took so I was looking to upgrade to a better handset before going back to ibiza next month.

I rang orange and they said although there was another 6 months left on my contract that I could get any other handset for free with the except of the orange spv or the n95 - extra £49.99 would be required to get either of these).

I was looking at the k810i as a friend from work has the k800 and it takes really good night time pictures.

Does anyone on here have experience using the n95 to take pictures in low level lighting and is it any good? also if you can, how does it compare to the quality of k800/810 photos?

I would miss the wi-fi and the web browser from my nokia but the battery life was very short.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

thats a good deal, I was told no 12months and a straight upgrade fee of £199 for 18months on my current £25 tariff

Still thinking of the U600 or maybe the K810i though, U600 seems betetr apart form th night time shots of the Xeon flash on it, mmmmm.....

No, I don't carry two around - I'm not that aimportant! I used to carry the K800i around until the birth of my son in February, at which point my wife stole it (for its camera abilities) and I bought the N73!

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

ah I see!!

Apparantly the K80 has exactly the same camera as the K810, what was it like? Im still umming and ahhing over the U600 or the K810, give up on the N95 as too much.

I know the flash is a proper flash as such on the K810, but dunno U600 has a good cam as well, escpecially as newer, also bigger and better? scren on U600?

and a good document viewer on thr K810 as well.

Although I picked up a K810i yesterday and liked it, it looked cool phone

The camera on the K800i is brilliant (hence why my wife nicked the phone!) I prefer it over the N73 mainly because the lag between button press and picture is a lot shorter.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

I am still undecide on the U600 or the K810

I am leaving smartphone I thinkas wanted the N95 really, but its too much money (I only want 12months) also I am sick of the bulk in my pocket of my N80

anyone know what the U600 camera is like? Ive seen the document viewer in the U600 as it was really good

I like to get better every year I get a new phone and so the obviuos one is N95 for me, but its too much. I havent used loads of WiFi and stuff on my N80 either I dont use internet or 3G stuff either. I really wanted a upgrade in camera ie 3.2MP to 5MP but theres only the N95..

Both these look good, I like them both, camera is 3.2MP same as my N80 now, but heard they are better are they?

please help probably gonna buy this week
cheers

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

I was looking at the U600 as i was upgrading but when i phoned vodafone they said i couldn't as it was Discontinued?? Anyway i cancelled with them and was going to go with a U600 with a different provider until i saw the E65 from three and basically signed up as soon as i saw it as it IMO looked nicer and seemed to do an awful lot more for a similar price. And i am lucky as i get a full 3 signal at my house and at my uni.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

The Nokia E65 does look like a really nice phone, however andyloc is looking for something which has a decent camera. Afaik the E65's 2MP camera does not even have autofocus (correct me if I'm wrong). I have no experience of the U600, but the K800i is a great phone and would not have any hesitations recommending it (as long as you are not looking for a smartphone).

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

Your right about the camera it's not the best but does me in taking the quick picture. If it's a camera your after then the one on the N73 is very good had go with both when i was in the 3 shop and the camera was quite a bit better but i preferred the look of the E65 and it was that that got me in the shop in the first place.

The K800i is a good phone but hasn't it got one of those joystick things SE use and i personally hate i got a phone with one and i lasted 6 months with it before i got fed up and got a new phone. But that is just me.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

The K810I will have THE best camera bar the N95 out of your choice of phones, if you want a camera more then the other features give a go.
It's personal perferance but I prefer the SE's interface over the Nokia non series 60 handsets. The joystick is again personal preferance but the E65 get's very good reviews and is again a full Nokia series 60 handset but the camera will pale in comparison to the K810I's or K800's.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

I just switched from a u600 to a K810i. Under my 14 day cooling of period.

The u600 is a good phone, the poor things though are how incredibly flimsy it is, the battery life is ok but not as good as it could or should be and also the Camera it's good but compared to the k810i it just doesn't cut it.

Overall if these little things had been sorted out i'd have stuck with it. Just got my k810i today and overall it's a better phone maybe not as stylish though.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

mmm I keep going fromone to thw other, is it that the camera in the K810i is that much better? or is it better beacuse of the flash?

The U600 comes with a 2 year warranty by the way so although filmsy (expect it has to be by design as its so slim) hopefully it wont break or if so it'll be under warranty

Ive decided not really bothered on smartphone, Im sick of carrying lumps about, I had a lot of the older SPVs when they were out and the N80 although small in length is really thick nd heavy.

I now want nice phone with decent features (dont use internet, 3G etc really)

Its interesting that you returned the U60 and got the K810i, did you compare the screens? as I know the U600 is bigger.

Also did you compare the pics it took? either on you computer screen or on even better printing them out?

regarding the battery Im used to it being poor, but to me I would charge everyday, theres a extended battery you can get for it, 1000mAh so this improves the battery life and is only £10

Im going to not go for the E65 as I want at least 3MP camera thanks, I have a friend who has the N73 and I think its too big so no to that as well I think, I have an iPaq that Im going to use for TomTom in my car so not bothered bout hat not on my N80 now as well.

Hasnt the K810i not got as good a feature list as the U600 though? the document viewer on the U600 looks really good and works well, can you get anything like this for K810i? I now it can read text files but the U600 is a proper PDF, MS office reader in the format its saved in.

Vodaphone has the U600 on its main page as latest phone!! cant fnd the K810i though on there - is that what you meant.

the U600 is free on Virgin for £25 with 300+300 as well, I think I will have to pay a bit for the K810i, its not out on Virgin either, any other good deals on these 2 phones?

Any other recommendations? as I say not bothered about smartphone really, just good camera and feture

cheers

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

It's quite simply andy, if you are looking for the best camera phone out there (bar the N95), then I would say the best are the SE K800i/K810i and Nokia N73. Having both of these, my preference goes towards the SE as the lag on the shutter press of the N73 really bugs me. There have been a number of group tests with the above two phones and the Samsung D900 and the Samsung always came out worse off.

Of course there will be better phones by the end of the year, but right now these are the best camera phones you can buy.

Re: What shall I get - ready to upgrade!!

I do wany a really good camera but also other features, is the K810 one hit thing - the camera and thats it?

ie is the K810i camera that mcuh better over the U600 whereby it is better to get even though the screen, document explorer, thinner profile, better video etc is worth it?
