Locked or Unlocked?

My question is can a phone be unlocked only to a certain amount of networks?

Is it either locked into one network only or open to all networks once an unlocking code has been used on it?

I'm asking because I have just bought a Samsung D600 on E-Bay which the previous owner says is unlocked, but when i insert my Tesco mobile sim card it only allows limited service i.e. emergency calls only

It gives me the choice of four networks to pick manually - O2, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile, does this mean it has been unlocked but will only work with any of these four networks?

Is it worth me trying to get it unlocked again or is it that Tesco mobile is rubbish?

thanks for any info on this it's my sons new phone and he is most upset that he can't get it to work properly,
thank you
Moley xx

i would say its most likely barred although it maybe you have a poor reception or the phone is faulty
check your sim is ok in another phone first
if it was not unlocked it would say network lock

Re: Locked or Unlocked?

set the network search to auto
try any sim and see if it works
i think it will either say limited service or will show a signal but wont make or receive calls (maybe 3 rising bleeps)

Re: Locked or Unlocked?

I tried that and that is what happens ie, it says limited service only so I gave up with Tesco and got a Vodafone Sim card, trouble is now i can't seem to make any calls, it texts fine but when trying to make actual phone calls it rings the number then immediately shows 'call ended' on the screen - i have tested my own vodafone card in the phone and it happens with both.

Anybody know whats wrong?

Have contacted the seller of the phone for any info and got a 'not my problem response'

thanks for any help as i said it's my sons phone and all he can do on it is play games atm
