i think manufacturers recommend charging them for 12 hours, but I, like cherries82 only charge my one for 2/3 hours and off I go. Never had any battery issues that I can think of!

Overnight, then turn the phone on with the charger still in and wait another hour or so.

This gives it a full charge...whether you still need to nowadays with the newer battery technology, I don't know, but better safe than sorry IMO

If you charge them to long you can damage the battery 6 hours is normally about right also with new phone batteries you shouldn't let them run all the way down.

I've also heard that...though I've always worked on the anecdote that you need to fully charge and discharge them fully every few cycles.

When you charge overnight there gets a point where the phone stops charging itself, then by turning it on it starts to charge again (probably using the power required to turn it on) until it stops itself again.

Personally, I've never had any battery issues by doing the above. That's no guarantee that it's best practice, but for me, it does no harm.
