Just won a N95 on eBay...

...God I hope I've not been scammed!

I've won on a Buy It Now for a mere £330. This almost sounds too good to be true, but since it was via PayPal I think I'm relatively safe.

Sorry for the meaningless post, but the nervous tension is getting to me...

Come on seller, email me...email me dammit!!!

Nervy Inj...

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

Just be aware that the PayPal protection is contingent on the other party having funds in their PayPal account, otherwise PayPay would not be able to refund you the money. Good luck.

I also got my N95 through eBay but collected it in person, I paid £380 for it but it was what was advertised, an unlocked O2 upgrade N95 with the 1GB memory card which contains the GB maps.

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

Yeah - I've read up on the Paypal rules and whilst I've got to reason to doubt as yet, it's the biggest purchase I've made on Fleabay to date.

Thanks for the reply though!

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

Paypal does not guarentee you protection. The best way to know if you are protected is to check the listing, in your case the mobile phone listing and look under buy safely on the left side of the page. if you see a blue pciture of 2 P's with a tick next to it then you can stop worrying as you will be covered. If not and the seller has low feedback ie less than 10 i might start to worry and even contact paypal and try to stop payment. a lot of dodgy people selling phones on ebay, have to be real careful in that area.

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

If you have been ripped off, you will only get £105 back off paypal. This is their own rules. So be warned you will not get the full amount. This happened to me when i got ripped off with a 380 quid graphics card.

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

I got an Orbit from Ebay but the seller had sold a few phones previously and also had 300+ +ve feedbacks so I wasn't really that bothered.

You get the gist of who's genuine after a wee while online.

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

The more I think about this the more I'm unsure. I've checked my email from eBay and it gives me his name (although I think the surname is fictional) and his postcode - which does tally to his address in London, as he suggests. It means nothing I suppose, but some things to appear to be kosher.

So I could just be being impatient; but if I've not heard anything by the end of tomorrow I may call in the e-cops.

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

after doing a quick search on ebay only three were sold by buy it now for £330 and one was located in germany. now if you bought the one that was being sold by rich_peachy then i would worry. but if you got the one from l_c_a you are fully covered from paypal minus shipping fees. Dash is mistaken about only getting £105 back as the person i mentioned above is fully verified by paypal and transactions up to £500 are covered.

Worse still is that I'm at work and eBay is blocked, so I can't check for myself. I can go to Paypal though and do something if I need to.

Yeah...looking at rich_peachy i'd be concerned also..
BTW - getting your money back via paypal is like getting blood from a stone! Hopefully it won't get to this..

Damn. I'm wondering if I should I file a complaint now on the sheer suspicion of it. I know there was another buyer too, I wonder if he's had the same no contact from him too.

It doesn't appear to be possible no. According the Paypal the payment process is 'Complete'.

I could be jumping the gun and doing the guy a disservice, but I'm feeling a bit of a plank right now.

im looking out for an n95 myself on ebay too, but that listing you bought from would ring alarm bells just by their low feedback.
im very cautious on ebay, & would try and make sure im covered before i buy-especially at those prices.
there seems like more scammers are trading than genuine seller's!...

keep us informed won't you?.

good luck.

Be careful about paypal - it doesn't offer you guaranteed protection (unlike credict cards) which I have found out to my cost in the past.

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

OK; here's the latest and it's pretty good news on my part.

I managed to get to contact the 'other' buyer (there were supposedly 4 N95's for sale.) Luckily, the other buyer had something to sell, so given eBay's rules, you can only contact another member regarding a sale. Anyway, I contacted them and asked if they had heard anything from the seller/thief. He ordered earlier than I did and he hadn't heard a thing either.

So, I contacted PayPal to start proceedings there. No doubt I won't hear anything back from the seller/thief, but it at least alerts PayPal.

I also contacted my bank this morning after seeing that the funds (as yet) had not moved from my bank. They said that they would note my request that nothing to/from PayPal should be 'paid' from my account. So in theory, hopefully, I've not lot a bean. Which is damn good news for me.

I really don't know how these people sleep at night.

Back to the quest for finding a proper N95 now then!

Glad you got there before he took the money! Personally, I tend not to buy very expensive items unless I can collect or they have cast iron feedback!

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

Yes - I didn't live by own rules in this case. I usually seek out very high 90's for feeback and many, many sales under their belts first. I guess I had a loopy moment for this one. Should have known better and it's a message to us all really that people WILL do one over you, regardless.

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

it's that old cliche where you want it right now so sometimes you don't read the listing properly or you get too bid happy.

Close shave, you may need to close your Paypal account though.

Re: Just won a N95 on eBay...

I got a second chance offer from someone who couldn't sell their N95 because the £400 reserve wasn't met.

I was the second highest bidder at £333.33 and this person gave me a secodn chance offer. I smell scam, and they only had 6 feedback, but did have paypal (doesn' m ake much difference).

But I did bag myself a unbranded unlocked Nokia N95 for £350 and got it today!

simply ask him can u come pick it up, if he says yes, that would say hes probably ok.

If he says no and makes up some BS excuse, U know its too good to be true

Chance would be a fine thing! I have not heard a single reply from him since I had the misfortune to start the whole sorry affair.

He's a scammer; of that I have no doubt. Full of BS already, I would say.

Thats exactly what I do if I get suspicious, and the answer usually turns out to be no or they won't reply back.

I've been scammed before on the Nokia N91 when it first came out, something like £315. I made a big mistake and fell for it but I was new to the whole eBay thing. Lucky I got all my money back thanks to a small claims court and it was all done online!

If you have online banking, cancel your Paypal Direct Debit instruction pronto. If not go into your bank or phone them and request they cancel the DD instruction... just in case.

That usually works too, However, some people generally don't like strangers popping on their door step so I tend not to place too much emphasis on this as a screening process.

The seller is raman_peachy. I cannot post the link at the moment as eBay is blocked by the net-police at work.

He states he is from Eltham/Hackney in London.
