Using inclusive minutes to call abroad?

Is it still possible to use inclusive minutes to call 0844, 0871 type numbers? My wife uses these alot (easily 600 minutes) a month. Our landline phone bill is close to £100 a month!!! So I am wondering about changing to a mobile tarrif with around 1000 inclusive minutes for around £50.

After looking around there are lots of websites that claim that you can do this, but when I checked on O2, t-mobile, three etc websites they all seemed to imply that the numbers could not be used, ie. not counted as landing numbers.

ive not come across one that would. Whenever ive used an 0844 number on my phone i get billed. This might change with things like BF fusion with the mobile over IP and the new wave of wifi phones. who knows

The last time I was told about these international dialing codes, you could still use your allowance for 0845 and 0870 numbers if you're on O2, but 0844 numbers will be chargeable.

Another way to find out is to email the networks themselves and ask whether certain numbers are included in your monthly allowance. And you could always try making a short phone call for about 2 minutes or so, then check your online bill to see whether that's been charged

Hmm Seems very confusing. When I tried looking on their websites I couldn't really find any simple page that listed the call costs for non-standard numbers (eg premium rates etc) they seem to make it deliberately difficult to find out.

Guess I will have to try contacting them directly.

Well I have just found a very interesting site Rebtel that should work with all mobile phone companies. If you believe what it says, on the website.

Just got email from O2 customer service and it says:

Calls made to UK fixed line numbers, voicemail menu access and retrieval, fax calls and calls to free phone are included in the free voice call allowance. Calls made to local rate and national rate numbers (0845 and 0870) and 0800, 0808 and 0844 numbers are also included in the free voice call allowance. However, the calls to 0844, 0845 and 0870 numbers are excluded from the free O2 Long Weekends minute allowance.

Calls made to 0871 numbers are not included in the free voice call allowance. Calls made to 0871 numbers are charges at 35p per minute.

And from O2's website:

- UK Fixed Line Calls include calls made in the UK to standard UK Fixed-Line Numbers, voicemail menu access and retrieval, fax calls and calls to free phone, local rate and national rate numbers (0845 and 0870) and 0800, 0808 and 0844 numbers.

-Inclusive minutes apply to calls made in the UK to UK Fixed Lines, calls to O2 Mobiles, UK network mobiles, voicemail 901 and excludes 07744 and 07755 numbers which will be charged at 25p per minute. Inclusive minutes on the Leisure plans can only be used 7pm to 7am weekdays and all weekend.

I am pleased to say it's true.

I have just started working with Rebtel (though it's agency) and can confirm that you can use your the minutes in your price plan to make free calls internationally from your mobile.

Also we are the only company that allows you to do this from any mobile phone without downloads. Not bad?

I have only just signed up to rebtel in the last few days and they are offering 10 free International cals a month. For me it seems brilliant as I have been phoning my brother in New York for free. It takes a bit of understanding but if you just follow the instructions its pretty straight forward.

I saw a poster in the Tube a couple of weeks ago, T-Mobile are starting to include international calls in some of their tariffs' minutes apparently...unless it was a dream, I've had stranger...

You could sign up for a landline bundle with free daytime geographic numbers then use http://www.saynoto0870.com/ to look up the geographic number.

Of course if your wife tends to use the same numbers all the time check the database for geographic alternatives before you sign up for a landline bundle.
