can i turn this annoying expensive GPRS off???

hi
love it!! orbit is better than i could have imagined, ive come from spv phones.

OK GPRS is causing me a pain, it connects when IT wants to, and that i cant have as it costs me money ( i get 1mb free on O2)

I now have the monitor running so ill know if ive spent a fortune.

But how can i stop the darn thing connecting, i NEVER want it to connect unless i specifically ask it to.

Also ive no idea how much its going to cost per mb, any ideas on those two points?
Contract is a £35 pm one

Thanks

simon

Re: can i turn this annoying expensive GPRS off???

well, my MDA Compact works by going in to settings, then connections, then checking a box to connect only when launching a program that requires internet connection......try looking somewhere in that sort of area, i dont know which model the Orbit relates to on T-Mobile, but i'd have thought basic functionality would probably handle in a similar way...

Re: can i turn this annoying expensive GPRS off???

ok soft reset it, icon is there, thanks well done.

Testing it now looks like i HAVE to have 1 min as the minimum cut off, and thats IF its not being used.
Its better than nothing but i would really like to either turn it off or on, its as simle as that, Surely its a basic normal requirment? lol

im not blaming you of course, but O2 for not putting a SIMPLE bit on code in there somewhere, money grabbers £3 a meg is robbery

Re: can i turn this annoying expensive GPRS off???

blame MS

try a combination of the options as per knight_bye "settings, then connections, then checking a box to connect only when launching a program that requires internet connection......try looking somewhere in that sort of area"

together with the following reg hack:

To set the data connection to remain permanently on
The setting is at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A 38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)'

(GRPS connection name) is the name of your connection to the outside world
The 'AlwaysOn' DWORD value can be set to '1' to remain on permanently or '0' to turn on and off as required
For example, to set the data connection always on for a T-Mobile MDA Pro

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 8-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\T-Mobile Internet\AlwaysOn = 1

and:

To add Disconnect button and a timer display showing how long GRPS is in use for the session in a bubble when you tap the icon on top task bar (next to phone signal etc):

HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 16 (DWORD decimal)
