Hi,

The missus has a K800i which she really likes, but is having a few problems with making and recieving calls (to the extent where if it can't be fixed will be getting a different phone).

She has had the phone for at least a couple of months, can't remember exactly but I know it had just come out. Must have been one of the first batch.

She can make a call and then i'll go to call her straight back and I cannot get hold of her? Other times she just can't get a signal where she normally wouldn't have a problem or someone else on the same network is okay, and then all of a sudden it will be fine again? It's quite bad!

Could this be down to firmware???

its worth taking it to a service center and having f/w upgraded (or i think you can do it yourself online)
if you take it to service center and tell them the problems, they can also check the signal chips/arial etc

Thanks for reply, but Service Center? What and where do you mean? I didn't by the phone from Phones 4 U or somewhere like that.

And if this can be done online, where? Sony's website?

I updated my K750i the other day using their update service software & the standard USB cable


If you want to check what firmware version you currently have on your phone, do this:

Move joystick right, let go
Press the * (star key) once
Move joystick left twice
Press *
Move joystick left, let go
press *

This will take you to the "Service" menu.
Select "Service info" (should be first option)
This will take you to the "Service info" menu
Select "Software info" (should be second option)
The first line contains the version number. Will say something like "R1AA008" or R1AA005" or "R1N035" or similar


If you then do a google search on "R1N035" or whatever your current firmware version is, then you might find some info on other people who have had the problems you have experienced, and how they have cured them

Personally I would just try the update software anyway, if your phone is a very old batch, it probably has very old firmware, so updating it can only make your phone better!
