N80 v4 firmware update for Orange & 3 available on NSU

The Nokia Software Updater application will now update Orange and 3 network N80's to v4 firmware

There may be updates for O2/Voda/T-Mobile too but i cant say for sure as i dont have an N80 on those networks to test out

I've just successfully updated my Orange N80 from v3 to

V 4.0623.0.41

So while its not the VERY latest release (.42) its still better than V3!

I will also see if FOTA has been activated and if i can get .42 via that

I just tried to do an update on my Voda N80 and it said nothing is avaliable.

Cracker, maybe you can help. I've just tried the updater on my phone (Orange N80) and it does say a new update is available. Unfortunately, after downloading the update it asks me to insert to "Nokia USB Installation Disk" which I don't have. Where do I get that from?

Doh! Looks like it's just for Orange/3 users at the moment then


ParmMann did you have the Nokia PC Suite (not NSU) installed on your system before you tried the update? (I.e the software you use to backup your phone contacts etc)

The only thing i can think of is that the PC Suite software contains the usb cable connection drivers, and maybe the NSU app needs those in order to communicate with the phone

Cracker, I figured it out. I just had to browse to the install directory on my C drive and it found the required stuff.

I've updated my phone but unfortunately it's now using the Orange firmware again as opposed to the generic firmare I had before, doh! Oh well, at least it's up to date.

V4.0623.0.41 is the one I have now, haven't noticed what's new yet but at least it is new.

Yes i had considered doing a phoenix flash to generic v4, but after i almost managed to mess up my guinea-pig 6280, i decided it might be best to stick to official updates only for my N80

Also, if there is a problem with phone Orange cant blame it on me installing generic firmware


The main differences ive seen are the Orange Music Player and OrangeTV apps, as well as the Nokia Search, and antivirus

Phone seems to run a lot faster now, also the boot-up time has halved! My 2gb mem card now works a lot better too. Also the text-messaging font is now bold, which doesnt make any difference to me, but a lot of people thought the old font was too small to read

I must admit, I've not had a problem with the new firmware yet, Orange or not. I've now noticed a few of the extra apps, haven't used them yet but the Photography, TV and anti virus are all there.

another small thing which im glad this v4 firmware has fixed is that annoying automatic re-connection to GPRS every time you reboot the phone!

Is it possible to remove some of the Orange apps? Particularly the Photography one, there seems to be shortcuts for it everywhere and it's one app that I'm certainly not likely to use.

I've not removed the Orange Photo app, but if you go into it, accept the agreement (if its the first time you go in), then go into options -> settings -> and scroll down and select "disbale photography service" and say yes to the warning

This will totally disable the service, so it wont keep asking you to "send to friend" etc every time you take a picture


If there were other features of it that you did want to use, you can turn off individual things like the camera prompt etc in that settings menu
