Capped tariffs - do they exist.

Looking for a mobile for my son.
Need unlimited (or large number of) texts and a hard cap on call charges (level to be decided).
Have searched around and am coming to the conclusion that these tariffs are an urban myth.

Anyone ? ?

Re: Capped tariffs - do they exist.

You can get unlimited texts with Orange for £35 or 3000 texts for £25: http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/

Sure if you ask them they can cap the calls...failing that look for a Pay As You Go with loads of texts then won't be able to go over.

Re: Capped tariffs - do they exist.

Thanks,
Looked at their website and couldn't see anything about the capping - mind you the Ts and Cs alone take some reading !
is this a confirmed contractual thing that you have done yourself ?

Re: Capped tariffs - do they exist.

Also U-Fix on t-mobile does exactly what you want as well: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher...s_ufix_landing

Edit: Just looked further and although it makes no sense it has a section for call cost over the allowance....hmm surely that would make it exactly the same as a monthly tarriff????!!!!! You would need to speak to them to ask them if they really do allow you to cap or else they just have two different names for the same thing!

Re: Capped tariffs - do they exist.

My friend is on the Orange one for the unlimited texts but haven't asked them about capping or anything...the t-mobile one is probably best for that as it is a set price with good number of items....just always like the unlimited texts bit

I found hits about the cap being 'soft' as well.. not that the bill would be.

U-Fix seems unlimited web browsing (don't need that), texts max at 500 but only 30 mins call on that plan which is a bit small for a monthly allowance..

Re: Capped tariffs - do they exist.

Just phoned Orange (doh !). they don't cap....
unless the guy in the shop has a trick it looks like a no go.
I reckon capped tariffs ARE an urban legend....

Re: Capped tariffs - do they exist.

Try phoning t-mobile....there is the one without web...£25 for 30 mins and 500 texts

It states:

Better value than pay as you go
Fix your bill at a manageable rate
Top up like pay as you go

So I presume you pay a fixed direct debit and can then top up if you need to go over using pay as you go?!

You could then give him a £10 top up for calls or something a month?!

Re: Capped tariffs - do they exist.

yep, it seems the only capped tariff out there... trouble is the low call figure.
looks like orage with 500 mins and zillions of texts for 35 quid...and withdrawal of phone priviledge if exceeeded....
