New network and new phone?

Annoyed at the level of customer service I've received from Vodafone today - a 22 minute conversation before he revealed I'd have to use a different phone number if I wanted to have one of their deals off the web (ie 500 texts and 200 minutes and use line rental discount) and still pay extra for the phone I wanted (which if I did on net I wouldn't have to). He said I couldn't move the number across even if I did take out a new contract which is what really got to me, because I'm sure I can transfer it out.

So now I'm considering o2 and 3, the only other operaters that work at home. I'm considering 4 phones: Samsung D900, SE W810i/SEK610i, Nokia 6233. Any opinions on which is best? I'm leaning toward the D900 - liking the idea of "living world" and I've got a D500 now which i adore.

Re: New network and new phone?

The problem Vodafone have is probably very similar to O2... O2 Online and the vast majority of O2 UK accounts are on the same system and it simply cannot support transfer of the number onto the same system unless it is removed and then replaced onto the system... which is where the messy method of transferring to a PAYG SIM and back again starts to be necessary...

As an O2 operator I'm not quite the person to say on your network choice... you get dodgy advisors from any network... but 3 coverage is the best 3G coverage and none of those handsets really take advantage of that (and I don't know if they ARE available from 3...) O2 3G coverage can't compete, but actual coverage over the UK is generally held to be better, the O2 Online deals are generally much better than instore deals, but I would not count 3 out on the basis of some of the handsets they have as exclusives. With O2 if you currently have a D500 your best options are probably the Samsung E780 (exclusive to O2 in the UK and not been a bad performer while I've had it, but not significantly upgraded from your D500), The Samsung D900 (not quite as good as D500/600 in terms of battery life due to size) and though I'm not a fan of SonyEricsson, the W810i appears to be a better quality handset than many of their other recent attempts (in terms of volume of complaints). Also the Nokia 6233 does have good reviews, and is supposed to be a direct replacement for the 6230i, which is a long-standing workhorse... but the 3G functions seem to be wasted as there is no front camera...
