SE W800i Battery Failure

Ok, so i bought this W800i 2nd hand after my W810i went swimming with me while drunk on holiday

anyway, i put sim in, put battery in, then charge up, it reads fully charged, so i turn it on...as soon as it turns on the battery symbol reads 0% after for a swift second reading 100%.then i get "attention battery low" and yet im still using it 10 minutes on. im seeing how long i can use it for before it does actually die, but i want to get the problem sorted out, my mum (who bought it for me) has emailed the seller asking to return the product and get a complete refund, where we will go into town and buy a W800i for £125 from a phone shop on the high street. But that is if i cant find a solution to this phones problem! any help please? ive been on 3 different forums now and not one has helped so im placing everything on this!!

Re: SE W800i Battery Failure

It does sound like the battery has been abused and it's charging cycle has been so short the battery has developed a 'memory'. The best way of stretching this is to leave it on and totally wipe out the battery, and then leave it on charge overnight. It's a gradual process and it may not be entirely successful... your battery will never work like new... but you might be able to squeeze a good few hours use out of it if you observe the simpel rule of wait until the handset needs chaarging before you do so...

Also bear in mind the recent saga of exploding Sony batteries (which is mainly to do with laptops at present...) but in any case... if the battery gets excessively hot... leave it alone.

But your best option is to invest in a new battery, which should always be a consideration when buying a second-hand phone anyway...

Re: SE W800i Battery Failure

hmm...check that contacts on the battery are all clean... if one of the contacts that deals with metering the battery is crudded up that could be an explanation...

otherwise you'd need to wait for SonyEricsson to realise that there's a new version of flash/shockwave out that they need to support

Re: SE W800i Battery Failure

okay cheers, well i last unplugged it when i did this post, and so far, ive had 5 warnings about low battery but it still hasnt turned off lol. so ill just wait till it does eventually turn off, and then fully charge the battery and hopefully that resets the memory of the life cycle or whatnot!

Cheers
