Should I go PAYG or contract and what phone do you recomend?

I currently have a V3 and the contract is due to expire soon and i would like a new phone as the battery does not last long as it is 2 years old and I dropped it so the pictures I take with the camera are not very clear.
I only use my V3 for txts and some calls but I would like a new phone which stores music as it comes in handy at times and one that recieves sky sports so I can catch up the latest scores when I am on the 2-10 shift.

I currently pay £30 a month on Vodafone and recieve 500 txts and 200 mins free. I sometimes go over the 500 and sometimes I might only use about 250 txts. Should i stay with contract and what phone do you recomend? I am currently with Vodafone but I go Milton Keynes weekend to the xscape complex and I never get a signal in there
