How to my number to o2?

I've requested my PAC number from Orange and it should be here in a couple of days. My shiny new N73 came today but no-one was in to receive it so I'll have to go and pick it up. My old contract ends in a few days so I have a couple of days to sort this out I think.

This is where the o2 problem arises. On the website help it says to click help then "Bringing my Number to O2" but this is a blatant lie as such a link does not exist.

Through google I have seen several websites that say something along the lines of this:

"If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, simply contact your existing supplier to obtain your PAC code. Then order your handset as normal from ourselves which will be connected with a 'temporary number' on O2 - this number will then transfer automatically within 10 days to your old number."

But that just doesn't make any sense. How do o2 know I want to change back to my old number?

O2's website doesn't appear to have a number to ring either, and I bet if there is one it's premium rate.

Is it really this hard to keep my old number? I'm thinking it's probably easier to just bang out a couple of hundred txts (oh yeh... I'm popular ) to my mates.

Re: How to my number to o2?

When you fill out the form to purchase a new, there is normally a tick box for number porting. When this box is ticked it will add a extra page where u fill in your PAC number details.

Porting your number can normally only be done before you connect to a new contract. Depending on where you brought the phone they wouldn't allow you to port your number after connection.

Re: How to my number to o2?

The o2 contact link is on the 'Shop' page and on the left hand side "Contact us".

You just give them the pac number and they do the rest. It may take up to 4 weeks to move the number, but usually its less than 2

Your new contract phone will have a new number on its new sim, once the transfer is done you will get a sim update and the transfered number will be associated with your new o2 contract and sim

I've ported several numbers while in a contract with no problems

Cheers. I actually found the numbers in another topic, but I thought there was a way to transfer the number online. Can anyone confirm this or find the link?

Re: How to my number to o2?

I have just done this from T-mobile to O2.

You need to take out a contract with O2, get the PAC code from your current network ( this ends the contract by doing this ) then you send it to O2 by email or give them a call.

You will get the new phone with a sim card with a new number and this new number will get changed to the one you want to keep, when the transfer is complete.

I am still waiting for the transfer and so i am still using my old mobile as the old number can still be used until the transfer is complete.

Yes you can do it online.

You need to set up a contract online first and get a order number.

Then click on help , it says 'enter mobile number' ( in the middle of the page ) but dont bother just click 'go'.

Then click the link that says 'keeping my mobile number'

Then click the link that says 'i want to keep my mobile number'

Then click 'contact us' ( next to the 'try again' button ) . This then brings up the page that you need. It has a section for PAC code, order number and the rest of your details.

Hope it helps

Re: How to my number to o2?

Thanks for all the help. That seems to be a really sneaky/hidden way for o2 to do it, but whatever.

Is it ok for me to activate my phone as soon as I get it, so I can use it while I wait for my PAC code to come? Or does the number switching have to get sorted out before activation?

Not true, most providers allow you to port your number after you've started your contract.

Sorry for being pedantic but just getting you PAC code doesn't end your current contract, it merely gives 30 days notice that you might want to end your existing account, the contract is only ended once you actually use the PAC code

It really isn't as complicated as you're making out. You ask for a PAC code from Orange, you then give this to O2, either online or by phone, email etc, before or after you sign up for your new O2 contract - its up to you, the number will then be transferred within 7 working days to your new phone. In the meantime you can either continue using your Orange phone or activate and use the O2 phone using its new number up until the transfer takes place.

Re: How to my number to o2?

Well I tried to do it this time last year when I got my new contract with Orange. They said I had to send the phone back and order another one if I wanted to keep the same number because I had already activated it. I couldn't be arsed so just kept the new number.

Don't know if that's just Orange or if things have changed over the past year, but some companies can be a right pain in the arse and it's often easier to sort things out if you know what the craic is with all the details. Just making sure

Re: How to my number to o2?

I had got my PAC from Orange and called O2 today to check what I had to do to get that number ported onto a new contract with them. The sales guy said I could either place the order online or order over the phone. I ordered over the phone and he said that I should just call Cust. Services (he gave me a number) after the phone gets delivered and they'd sort the port for me.

Nothing difficult or complicated about that - get your pac from the old network then order the phone from O2 and call a number when it's been delivered.

Re: How to my number to o2?

Further question to this discussion...

Can you port your existing number into your new contract 4 months in.

e.g.
I have a vodafone contract with approx 4 months left to run.
I would like a new phone with O2, but would like to get it today & keep my old number (work reasons etc)
I can setup automatic call divert from my voda number to my new O2 number until my voda contract runs out in 4 months. (paying 2 contracts for 4 months)
Question is when this voda contract runs out, can i then port this number to my current O2 contract replacing the number i have been using for the 1st 4 months.

Thanks
