WiFi - Do I need it?

Hello there

I wonder if anyone could highlight the key benefits of having WiFi for me. I was just about to buy the N80 but found it to be too bulky. I'm now waiting for the N73 on Orange which appears to be pretty much identical to the N80 but without WiFi.

Do I need WiFi? Will I be missing out if I don't have it?

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Well, you can browse the net with it if connected to a hotspot or home network, however the killer app is making free voip calls using skype or other similar programs, however, I've not looked into this enough to know if it's available or worthwhile having.

The few mates I know that have the n80 hardly use the wifi cos it drains the battery etc I find the n73 a more attractive phone, BUT as a techie geek, I'll get the N80 just to explore the boundaries of what wifi can deliver.

Re: WiFi - Do I need it?

Ive had wifi on my palm for the last year, and used it twice to check email at home, purely cos I could, then gone back to my laptop. Skype would be the same if you ask me, a very limited number of times that you are in a free hotspot, that you would actually use it, using skype on a pay hotspot would be more expensive than a straightforward mobile call. Maybe when wimax is the norm, but until then it just adds bulk and drains battery.
BTW I have a Sony M600i, no wifi, just 3G, fast enough for browsing and email, and as slim as my V3, just a bit longer.

Re: WiFi - Do I need it?

I think I can probably do without it. Prefer less bulk and most of my calls are for business anyway so it's unlikely that Skype / hotspots etc. will ever be anything more than a novelty/luxury for me.

Thanks guys. Think I'll go for the N73 (when Orange finally decide to pull their fingers out and release it...)

Re: WiFi - Do I need it?

The Skype thing is a really good idea and apparently it's really taken off in Japan and knocked the phone companies for 6.

If a load of Wifi hotspots pop up for free around the country then it would be good, but I just can't see it happening in the foreseeable future.

Also: playing NDS wifi online multiplayer in public ftw!
