N70 + TomTom or SE P990? - any opinions on which is best (on vodafone)

[FONT="Tahoma"]

Hiya,

I'm due for an upgrade with Vodafone and I'm not sure which phone to go for. I've had a 7610 for about 2 or even 3 years - I love it, it's so reliable and straightforward, but the case is broken and they've stopped offering them.
I've always chosen Nokias up till now as they're so reliable and you can always find a charger, so based on a recommendation by their upgrade dept. I opted for a 6280 (according to the lady I spoke with it was to be voted 'Phone of the Year') upon receipt I thought it was utter pants, not well made at all. They're now offering me the N70 (returned phone only) or the SE P990.

Does anyone have any opinion on either of these? I'd prefer no flippy bits as these seem to break off, I'd like something that's functional, stylish and most of all reliable. I fancy using the TomTom capability too if it doesn't cost a bomb or is poor quality.

Your advice

Thanks

This is my first ever thread posting so please do me proud!!

Well, there 2 completley different animals there. The SE P990I is the top of the range of all the SE phones which is worth £585 and offers full smart phone capabilitys, take a look here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...=pp1&pid=10336

It has a flip front keypad which can be removed if you refer.
The Nokia N70 is now replaced byt the N72 or N73.
The more reliable phone is hard to say, the P990I has only just been launched and so may need a firmware update or 2 to make it rock solid but SE WILL deilver these and you can update the phone yourself over the air or the internet with your PC. The N70 is a good solid handset but I wouldn't like the idea of a second hand one on an upgrade.
If you want to use Tom Tom in your car then the P990I is the better phone due to it's bigger touch screen, there are also other car sat nav systems for phones, look at Nav4all, it's free to download but not too sure about usage costs.
The N70 is smaller and lighter with no touch screen, have a look here:
http://www.nokia.com/nseries/index.h...nside,main_n70

Myself I would choose the P990I any day especially if it's for free. But the N70is more like your 7610.
You can always buy a new case of ebay for your 7610:
http://search.ebay.co.uk/nokia-7610_...fltZ9QQfromZR8
And still use sat nav on it, just get a bluetooth sat nav module for about £60 which you need anyway.

Glad to help, there is another option which is to buy one of these:
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/home/..._n_series.html

They have bigger touch screens and built in GPS modules so all you need to do is download and install your chosen satnav software. Or the new cheaper TomTom: http://www.tomtom.com/products/produ...143&Language=1

But then you don't get a nice new phone for free.

Why the N70?? Have a look at the N73, much better IMO than the N70, also has bigger screen etc.
