Question about internet access with mobile and bluetooth

Hi,
My Dad has just moved and he has no internet access in his study - he's happy with dial up - but the phone socket is too far away - he doesn't want wires all over the place.
He has a mobile contract with 600 free minutes that he only uses 100 of, so can he connect to his PC via bluetooth and then use the 500 mins for internet access?
If so - how?
He's got a motorola on 3 - not sure which model though.
Any thoughts please?

Re: Question about internet access with mobile and bluetooth

You can certainly use bluetooth to access Dial-up Networking. I have it on my laptop as a backup. Computer connects to phone via bluetooth...phone dials ISP. In twenty seconds I'm surfin' t'internet. Simple.

It's the charges that are not so straightforward. Depends on how 3 bill for the call - as voice or data. If it's voice and your ISP has a number that comes from your inclusive minutes then you're away.

To be honest, that's where my knowledge ends and I'm probably as dim as you. Maybe Daddy K is more clued-up and knows that all networks bill these calls as data ?

Best check with 3.

Re: Question about internet access with mobile and bluetooth

Thanks Daddy k & Lester - I'll probably get him to put an extension socket in and keep the cable tidy!

If he's worried about cables trailing then how about this?

Re: Question about internet access with mobile and bluetooth

the physicle side of it can be done! dial up/vpn over bluetooth however the networks billing system will not allow it to use up the spare mins.

if you add on 3's data service you will be able to however i personally believe this will not be cost effective!
roll on £5 extension lead
