Help with Nokia N70 caller identification

I ask this on behalf of a friend who isn't internet-savvy but will give you as many details as I can. My friend recently bought a Nokia N70 on contract with Three, since he bought it he has been having problems with the phone identifying who is calling or who has sent a message to him.

Even if he has the person's number stored in his address book the phone will display the phone number of the caller/message sender instead of the name. For example if he got a message from me it would say it was from +44700000etc. rather than my name. To make things more confusing the problem does not always occur, sometimes it will say who the caller is and other times it will display the caller's number (always with the +44 prefix).

Is this a known problem with the phone and can anybody suggest a way to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

This is usually caused by when the phonebook has two names with the same phone number in it. The phone can only display one name, so if it finds two names then it will only display the number.

Sometimes happens when a user has two friends that share the same home number, Eg Jon and Jackie both have a mobile and their contact details also include their home phone number. If either of them call from their home number then the phone will not the name as it doesn;t know which number to display.

Thanks for the reply but that isn't the case here, it happens if he only has only contact for the number. What makes it even more confusing is that sometimes it works fine, other times it's broken, so it's hard to pinpoint what's causing it. Could it be anything to do with storing the contact details on the phone as opposed to the sim or vice versa?

If it works sometimes then I'm lost, maybe an old firmware bug that I haven;t seen. Check the firmware by typing *#0000#, if its anything less than 5.0616.2.0.3 then get it down to a service center (some CPW do it aswell), and get it reflashed.

BTW: S60 phones only use the phone memory so keeping contacts on your sim card is useless.

i have a similar problem, the primary number works ok, but when a contact has more than one number then the secondary number will not show the name only the phone number of the incoming call, for example when my partner rings on her mobile it will say her name but when she phones from work it will only display the number even though both numbers are in her contact details, really annoying!
