Lost my mobile last week - Would like some advice please

Hello all,

I lost my mobile last week and would like some advice. I was gonna post in this sticky thread above but it's locked.

1st off I have no insurance, no record of IEMI and neither the retailer or Samsung can provide me with it, even though I have serial number and receipt.

I've called O2 who have blocked the SIM but as it's not the phone I got originally on their contract I asked them not to block the handset (otherwise the person I sold my K750i to would have a blocked phone for no reason).

Anyway, this is the story. Please advise what you think I should do.

Left my phone on the bus last Monday, my mate calls me to see what I'm up to but gets no reply (I must have just got off the bus), a few seconds later a woman phones my mate back using my phone and say's she's just found a mobile and what should she do with it. According to my friend she sounded about middle-aged, quite posh and did seem genuine about wanting to get the phone back to it's rightful owner. So my friend advises her the best thing to do is hand it in to the bus driver when she gets off the bus. By now I'm back at home, have realised I've lost my phone and am calling it frantically.

I get through once, no one talks, I hear some random bus background noise and then it hangs up. My friend had since contacted me on my landline to inform me so I think perhaps the driver getting annoyed at it ringing and has turned it off. I then call O2 and block the SIM.

So the next day I call the bus company's lost and found but unfortunately they haven't had anything handed in. They suggest I keep trying throughout the week and also try the police.

After work Tuesday I see the same bus driver drive past so I flag him down to stop. He stops to speak to me and I ask him if anyone has handed in a phone the day before... now, he looks startled and says "no" in a stuttering manner and looks very cagy, then gives me some schpeil about his bus breaking down later on the route. He's a young guy, and I don't like to generalise but if I had to I would put him in the "chav" category. I tell him thanks and let him continue his route.

Now I've spent the last week phoning the bus companies lost and found but nothing has been handed in. Same with the lost and found at the police station and I cant file a lost and found with the police as I have no IEMI number.

I don't want to cast suspicion on anyone or wrongfully accuse anyone but I think if the woman who found my phone was kind and honest enough to call back my mate to see what to do with the phone, then I would have thought she would have been honest enough to follow my friends advice and hand it in to the bus driver. Then the bus driver seemed shady when I saw him so that raises doubt in my mind about his honesty.

I'm going into the lost and found tomorrow as I think it's better to do it face to face. They didn't seem to bothered about looking though their box of stuff when I called them.

To be brutally honest, I don't care that I've lost the phone as I'm due an upgrade this week anyway, but I do care if someone else is using it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Lee

I think O2 should have a record of the last IMEI number to use that SIM/Phone number. have you asked them?

Would that work as O2 think I have a K750i, which I sold to buy the D600. I wasnt sure if the SIM could tell the IEMI from the phone, and I've had the same SIM / number for both handsets.

I think I'm just going to have to deal with it tbh... and learn my lesson

Worst thing is I get free mobile insurance from my bank, I just never got round to sending them the proof or purchase for my new phone.

The network will know what handset you used with your SIM card each day it's switched on. Call them and have them bar the IMEI on the D600, but ask them not to bar the K750i.
