SE k800i or w810i

I had decided a month or so ago that I was going to hold off on my now available O2 upgrade until the SE W950i was launched.

Sadly my current phone (SE K750i) has just packed in, and I now find my upgrade hand forced. Sadly I don't have an old handset which I can use in the interim, as these get passed down the girlfriend / mates food chain.

I've narrowed my choice down to two handsets and would appreciate any feedback that anyone has on either before I order up.

SE k800i

Pros
  • excellent camera
  • good screen
  • 3G

Cons
  • Another memory format
  • A bit bigger
  • lower battery life

SE w810i

Pros
  • uses ms pro duo (which I have loads of)
  • good mp3 software
  • very similar to my k750i

Cons
  • very similar to my k750i (so waste of an upgrade?)
  • poor camera (lower MP, no lens cover etc)
  • no 3G

Anyone got any opinions on either?

I have read a number of thing on this site about the battery life of the k800I. I have to say that it lasts me for about 3 days every charge with the 3G enabled really no problems at all. Do you have a stand alone mp3 player? if so do you really need one on your phone? and the M2 memory cards are not to expensive.....I did look at the w810I but as you said I felt it would be waste of an "upgrade" as it really isnt an upgrade at all.

K800i all the way mate! The screen is truly awesome and the music software is pretty much the same as the W810i (minus the walkman branding) and as for memory, i got a 512 stick for the K800i for 17 quid on e bay!!!!!

It may use a new format, but it's affordable. 1gig is less than 40quid from mymemory.co.uk

Thanks guys. I took the plunge and went with the k800i. Should arrive today or Monday, so can't wait.

Once it arrives I'm gonna open up my k750i and see if I can fix the broken button on the keypad. If I can, I think I'll have a go at flashing it to a w800i and buying a new fascia.

I love the K800! Got it last weekend and really really like it. The phone itself is awesome and the camera is superb!!

Only moan about it really is the poor battery life but I can live with that

Poor battery life? You may have a dud. I charged mine on Saturday night, and it died on Wednesday evening, and that was with normal use, which is high enough as I work in a phone shop.

Is there any difference in sound quality as an MP3 player on these two models?

once you get used to SE phones, very hard to change. last week i've got a Nokia N80, but extreme difficult to operate and finally ebayed it. Very slow, poor camera quality (compares to 2mp in w800i) etc are downsides

but N80 is feature packed & compact compares to other phones in same generation
