Networking Help - N80

Hi, im trying to network my N80 to my LAN, to get on the internet.

heres my current setup.

BT Router > PC
> Laptop

and obviously, the pc and laptop use the router as a gateway to the internet. simple! this original setup is wired with 100mbps lan cards.

i would like the following:

BT Router > PC
> Laptop >> N80

> = Wired
>> = Wifi

now, i can connect the n80 to the laptop, but i cant get on to the internet

at the moment the IPs are thus

192.168.0.1 > 192.168.0.2
> 192.168.0.3/192.168.0.4 >> 192.168.0.5

basically, the 100mbps lan card in the laptop is .3, and the wifi is .4, and the N80 is .5.

is there something i can do different to get the internet connection available on the N80?

one way would be to change the laptop to 192.168.0.1 but then the router has to change to something which then stops the laptop being able to access the net.

Help!

Ok so let me get this right, you have a normal router (non wi-fi), but you have wi-fi on your laptop, and you want to connect to the net through your laptop, which in turn goes through the router...

I think you need to set the laptop as "access point". The N80 will only connect to an access point, so the laptop needs to be your access point, but you need to set it like that first.

I'm not sure you can set your laptop to access point mode - depends on the implementation.

Easiest way is to get a wireless access point, wire that up to your router, then use the N80. Also has the benefit that you can use the laptop wirelessly too

can i not do it with an Ad-Hoc connection between the 2 then?

is there any software which can make my laptop an access point? or do i physically need different hardware?

wireless networking is so complicated compared to wired!
